Fatally flawed MacT coaching.

This is assuming everyone is brought back, and noone is traded. Then I will have what I think the Oilers should do.

FORWARDS
Penner-Horcoff-Hemsky
Gagner-Cogliano-Nilsson
Moreau-Stoll-Pisani
Glencross-Brodziak-Stortini

Which leaves Torres, Pouliot, Schremp, Reasoner, Omarra either in the minors or the press box (although of course MacT would give Marty plenty of minutes if he's brought back)


DEFENSE
Souray-Greene
Pitkanen-Staios
Gilbert-Smid

Which leaves Grebeshkov, Roy, and Chorney on the outside looking in.


GOALIES
Garon
Roloson

JDD and Dubnyk in the minors (with JDD not really having anything to prove down there anymore)

What the Oilers should do:
-Take it out of MacT's hands by not bringing back Reasoner.
-Let someone else sign Stoll, take that draft pick (or picks).
-Re-sign Glencross for 2 years at around 1.25-1.5 per year.
-Lock up Horcoff for an extra 2-3 years (one of the only NHLers that I truly think would give some kind of discount)

-Trade Torres, Pitkanen (likely to happen), Schremp to Florida for Bouwmeester (in last year of contract before UFA)
-Trade draft pick from Stoll signing and Anaheims 1st for a top 12 pick. Take best forward available (preferably a sniper)

What the Oilers will do:
I honestly have no ****ing idea... although Pitkanen and Torres names have come up sooooo much in terms of trade rumours out of E-town to not have some validity.


Anyone else got any idea what we can do considering we have about 4-5 too many NHL ready players for next season? A good problem to have unlike the Flames who will be about 4-5 NHL players short of a full roster next year, and fairly close to the cap... haha

I like the Oilers. They're my 2nd team.

But, honestly. At this point in the NHL season, I'll say - Let's Go Pens!



Oilers will still miss the playoffs next year. Unless they can improve on their consistancy and overall offense.

eric offense definitely isnt a problem with so many kids only going to be BETTER... and probably the best 3rd and 4th lines in hockey... and several offensive defenseman to help out

what i do worry about is having only greene, staios, and smid as our "defensive defensemen"

i would love to clone Matt Greene.. if we had 2 of him I would be convinced we would have a legit top-5 team in the league next season.


although macT would outcoach himself come playoff time by putting reasoner and pisani as hemsky's linemate...

and eric, i think everyone in Canada's 2nd team is Pittsburgh by the sounds of it...(except Ottawa fans)

I honestly cant find many people who dont like the penguins..


although i personally am not sold on their goaltending when it gets down to the nitty-gritty in a round or two

and ur d-pairings are comedy

pay gilbert 4 mill a year to be third pairing guy is hilarious..

WILL be the combo's

pitkanen will be traded no way around it.. or else lowe will have to pay him 5+ a year if he wants him longterm.. (after giving gilbert the money hes pretty much assured hes trading pitkanen.)

Klowe wants to move up.. my dream is to go all the way and do something like

schremp (guy with loads of potential could explode with right situation ie vinny) -pitknanen (number 2 d-man behind boyle)-torres (2nd line wing for tb)-poulloiut (youthful 3rd liner for tb)---Matt Roy (7-8th d-man)

for

Stamkos (hemsky's new best friend) , obrien (6-7 d-man)- tampas 3rd



it fills alot of tampas holes and gives them chance to get back to winning sooner than waiting on stamkos to develop.. wed obviously add roli if they wanted to combo him with mike smith for a season.

ps doesnt getting bouwmeester still leave u with grebeshkov as a healthy scratch? (ps that wont happen mact loves his game)

You're looking through Rose-Colored Glasses and are starting to sound like a Canuck fan of the 2001-03 era. No offense..

But, seriously. The Oilers had a lot of overachievers on offense this year. Hemsky is the only player who has been consistant over a decent amount of years. Yes, they are young, and are PROJECTED to grow. But these aren't players who have top pedigree's and are all but garunteed to continue. Yes, I expect them to progress accordingly. However, you cannot deny the possibility of it not hapening.
The team has a lot of work ahead of it. Compared to the other teams in the West, but their potential is nice. Despite the fact that by the time they're all likely to be blooming, their financial structure could ruin the team...

hahah pens fans not worrying about his own finances...

please tell me how lowe has ruined the finances so bad?? his vets hes out of their contracts soon (staios-moreau-pisani) ,, he has one contract that could hurt in souray.. but if souray plays he can be an overpaid number 2 d-man on most teams.. he has a shot and size that is useful..

how on earth do pens expect to not have to pay malkin like 500k less per year than ovechkin got. dude their russian pick 1-2.. finished 1-2 in scoring.. going to ask for 1-2 in dollars wait and worry about that eric :)

These Oiler threads are getting pretty funny.  A bunch of junk for Stamkos?  Hilarious...  Schremp and Pouliot are long-shot prospects at best at this stage.  And there must be a reason Pitkanen is getting handed around (probably has to do with the fact that he is the next Niinimaa).
Assuming that all the young guys will improve and carry the team next year is quite a stretch.  Sophmore slumps happen to many NHLers.  Teams will also be able to key in on those guys a little more next year.
And the funniest of all is the lack of goaltending.  Garon had a great year yes, but can he do it again?  Can't assume it will happen for sure, and even if he is as good, still not in the top half of the league in team goaltending.
The big diff between Edmontons salary situation and Pitts is the fact that the Pens will possibly lose Malkin because he is a top 5 forward in the league and they already have one of those.  Edmonton doesnt have a top 20 player at ANY position, and they are still overpaying guys and almost maxed their cap hit this year and next....

4TH-- MINNESOTA- dude have you watched ales hemsky play hockey???? not top 20 LMAO.... hes carried this team offensively since doug weight left (while he was good)... our offense was 4th in the western conference this season.. hemsky would be a top 20 OVERALL pick if we had an entry redo of every avaible player... if you honestly think your lipstick twins are better your a joker :) :) :) :)...

5th- looking at it stats wise without the oiler glasses.. garon isnt top 12 hed be about 15-17 so kudos luke... i had him over vokoun-biron-bryzgalov like guys but stats wise it dont show so im going to knock him down in my personal ranks...thanks for making me see this and make it more obvious something has to be figured out after both goalies contracts are off the books after next year and ryan miller is a ufa.. BRING HIM IN LOWE.....

yet feester himself moved a number 4 overall pick for fedotenko back a couple years....

i think more likely torres-pitkanen-schremp-poulliout for ovechkin......

Hemsky is a fine one dimensional player, but he is no where near top 20 in the league, and I stick to what I said earlier...  he is not a to 20 forward in the league on anyones list except maybe a few Oiler fans.
