The Rumour Mill: Tampa Bay Acquires then Waives Niinimaa

Ottawa, ON (AP) - It would appear that Janne Niinimaa may be leaving Tampa Bay before he even arrives.  The veteran defenseman was traded to the Tampa Bay lightning last night as part of a minor deal with the Anaheim Ducks.  Shortly after being acquired however, the Lightning sent Niinimaa to the farm.  In order to join the farm club, Niinimaa must first clear waivers.  It will be interesting to see who, if anyone, picks up the Finnish blueliner.  Anaheim management have reportedly been in contact with Niinimaa's agent, JP Barry, to advise his client against selling his Huntington Beach home.  Stay tuned for more...

I don't get it...

Presumeably he's on waivers by mistake.  If not, something fishy is happening...

Speaking of something fishy... what's up with this:?

To Toronto:
To TampaBay: Jay McClement

To TampaBay: Curtis Brown, Janne Niinimaa, Raitis Ivanans
To Anaheim: Jay McClement, Phi 2009 Rnd 4, Atl 2009 Rnd 4

I claimed McClement off waivers from Toronto and was hoping to sneak Niinimaa onto the farm since I didn't think anyone would actually want him but if I lose him who cares, i got McClement for free.

He was on Anaheim's pro roster prior to the trade.

If a player is traded they are placed on the same roster (pro or farm) as they had been before being traded.  As TB sent him to their farm, he must clear waivers...

I am not sure how Raitis Ivanans got placed in the trade...  It was supposed to be Hamel.  I must have confirmed the deal without carefully reading the e-mail...  I will have to check my ICQ to be sure, but I am 99.9% sure it was Hamel and not Ivanans...
