Erik Johnson will be an immediate impact guy (thinking 1/2 PPG) and great rerates in BRHL2 because they will certainly give him lots of ice time....
but they do have jackman, brewer, mckee there to eat up minutes and they still have hopes for backman...
The calder vote with dmen usually is.... can their teams win? AND I think the Blues will jump in the standings this season under Andy Murray.
They will jump up the standings as the nashville plunges in the ratings, chicago and columbus have modest gains, and detroit wins the division in a landslide....
thats my 2 cents

My vote went to Backstrom. I'm high on this kid, tremendous vision and will dish Ovechkin the puck like no one's business. I think he's good for 60 assists this season and maybe 15 goals. Should be enough to win the calder.
I don't know if he is the best player, but I think the circumstances favor him winning the award.
I don't think a defenseman will come in and win it, because scoring forwards are more sexy and will get the attention. Johnson and Johnson will play great, but not enough to win. Letang won't reach his full potential this season, as his team doesn't need him to come in and log 25 minutes a game. Also having Gonchar, Whitney, and even Sykora on the back end of the PP will prevent him from getting much top line PP time in Pittsburgh.
I also think that if Kane/Towes and Sterling/Little each have good seasons, they will take votes away from each other.
I think that leaves Backstrom. He will be on an ok team, will log top six minutes, and be on a line with some talent.
It should be another phenominal rookie class.
