Ottawa-- After several meetings with Coach Dave Tippett and some select players GM Rob Botham has announced that Daniel Alfredsson will serve as the Senators captain while Willie Mitchell and Sami Salo will serve as the alternates for this season.  It has been rumoured that Scott Hartnell was originally slated to serve as one of the Senators alternates but due to his age he could not be named.

"I think Alffy (Alfredsson) will be a great captain for this team, and when Willie (Mitchell) was brought in we expected him to take on a leadership role as well," said GM Rob Botham, "the second alternate resulted in a few discussions with the league to determine the proper guidelines were met, and we ended up deciding on Sami Salo, he has been with this team for sometime know and being one of the few returning players he is expected to help lead this team." 

While Alfredsson, Mitchell, and Salo are obviously now expected to be the most vocal leaders on the team, the Senators certainly are not lacking in the leadership department as several players including Trevor Linden, Alex Kovalev, Chad Kilger, Matt Cooke and many other players are strong leaders and easily could of been given the captaincy or named an alternate.
