The New York Rangers shipped out beloved Rod Brind'Amour, Christoph Schubert, 2nd 08 and two prospects for Justin Williams. The rational behind this deal is simple. Williams is a younger version of Brindamour and still a top line guy who can play rightwing which the Rangers were after. Brind'Amour is a UFA at the end of the season and could be Lemieux tagged but, the tag will be going to Paul Kariya to spread out the offense at all positions. Schubert will be missed but was expendable behind 8 other capable dman. Williams becomes our top line rightwing now and he's locked into multi years on his contract and overall we shed over 1 million on this deal and get 800k below the 44million cap.
Its a win win for the Rangers and we still have all our depth, as well as a legit top line.
