Am I arguing? Are we not talking hockey? You Kirk and Rex seem to think me talking is arguing.
Isnt this forum called "Hockey Discussion"?
There's more discussion than objecting to or criticizing what others say. You just seem very combative, and need to have the last word apparently, on any thread.
Most of my 5000+ posts on HfBoards are pleasant discussions about hockey, about ten percent of which are good debates. But there's a few posters who seem to always want to argue. I'm just saying you demonstrate that.
Fair enough. I just dont understand why I cant have a differing opinion without being considered argumentative or dumb as so many GMs say in this league?

but i'd love to see if you could have discussions around here for one week of the year without arguing or criticizing or needing to get in the last word
I actually leave a ton of posts without the last word, you should really check back on most of my arguments and I'll be willing to guess that more than 75% of them, I was not the last word.
I will admit that I usually will take a jab if someone responds back to an original post of mine with something negative or insulting or challenging or whatever, but quite often I dont actually have the last word.
Also, I didnt actually say you said I was dumb, but I was called such only 5 minutes ago by none other than Kirk...
Nonetheless, thanks for the heads up from your side of the fence. I have much more respect for you than Kirk and Rex, who really are the only GMs in the league that I seem to have a difficult time with, as is displayed quite often. :) I actually enjoy most of the stuff you contribute even though sometimes I post my opposite opinion, as frustrating as that may be for you. :D
San Jose's lack of any kind of playoff leadership or experience has been their problem the last couple of years. They seem to turtle when the other team turns it up a notch. The borderline young guys mentioned earlier in this post are not going to help this. I personally don't think Roenick is the answer either (he is better at leading people at destroying hotel rooms than at hockey), but I guess someone is San Jose thinks he must have something to contribute leadership-wise.
someone in San Jose thinks he must have something to contribute leadership-wise.
Doug Wilson, the guy who phoned Roenick up.
They played together years ago and Wilson knows that Jeremy is a Type-A personality: hard-working, intense, competitive, 100% effort always. That can only help. It's his mouth that causes Jeremy problems at times.
however, no matter what thread he posts on, arin seems to bring up Atl and Phi GMs as examples (even though all we do is challenge your hostility)....
but its not like he has to have the last word...
Arin i think you're a good GM and everything, but perhaps a little less activity would be in the best interests of creating passionate debates on this board.
im glad you are so active, but perhaps the activity should be poured into articles...
thanks for your input.

Pinkfloyd, a poster on HfBoards, put it succinctly:
"This Sharks team needs a guy with fire, regardless of whether he's in the right. One thing Jeremy Roenick would bring if he makes the team is a lot of fight and character to a team that needs more of it. If he doesn't, 500k isn't going to be a humongous loss to a team with 14 mil in cap room.
No matter what he says, if he busts his ass all the time with this club, which he has every reason to do, he will make it worth it regardless of his numbers. Leadership, character, and toughness is all they're looking for here."
Roenick has three (3) game-winning goals (GWG) in merely 12 games played to be a league leader in that category (his Sharks having 7 wins in that time).
He's 22nd in ice time in San Jose with just over 11 minutes a game but is tied for third in team scoring with 7 points.
Making the most from his limited role: a STEAL at under a million so far this season.
His next goal will be his 500th. Don't be one of the ignorant yahoos calling for his retirement just yet.
JR will retire the second he gets that next goal though lol hehe.. being the biggest blackhawks fan in the early 90's (my fave player ever billion dollar belfour) roenick is a wiked person for hockey and the game is better when hes involved.. i do think though any kinda injury or head-ache he gets after 500 might scare him into retirement..
i would laugh if roenick decides to retire before his 500th goal... then release a book "One Shy of 500".... then become a host for either NBC's hockey night or ESPN... when asked why, he'll go "i'm f***ing with your heads aren't i?
The Sharks have been terrible relative to their skill. It's only a matter of time before Wilson gets fired.
San Jose is leading its division. As long as that continues nobody's job is at stake.
Anaheim has been a bigger disappointment this season. The Neidermayer factor, I guess.
San Jose has the talent to be the best team in the NHL. The spread between them and the last place team in the Pacific, the Coyotes, is 5 pts. They are 1 game over .500 They may be first for now, but it may not last long with the way they've played. Some nights they come out strong and others they have been terrible. I think it was last week against Detroit they had 1 shot in the 3rd period..
You also have to look at the play of their players. Marleau and Cheechoo have been non existent and Thornton has been average at best. If it wasn't for the play of some of their rookies they would be in the basement of the Pacific. The coach has to be responsbile to an extent for the play of his stars/captain and if they aren't responding, it's not good news for the health of the team.
I don't know how Wilson kept his job after the playoffs last year. Another early exit. I for sure thought he was done this offseason and I assume he was told he was on a short leash.
Roenick just scored his fifth goal of the season tonight a LEAGUE-LEADING 4th game winning goal (GWG) of the season to become just the 40th ever and 3rd American to score 500 goals in his career.
The goal itself was "fluky" but you make your own luck and he broke into the offensive zone alone and took the shot and got a real lucky bounce and mishandling by the goalie (J.R. had a great shot in the first period that many of us thought was a good scoring chance). His third line (Roenick-Mitchell-Grier) has been the Sharks' best the last three games and J.R.'s role as a constant well of intensity has been a factor (and his stickhandling is still worldclass).
The postgame celebration with him skating out as the game's top star with his son on his back holding up his stick was awesome! Totally J.R. in showmanship but apt. He thanked the fans of San Jose about six times in postgame interviews.
J.R. has been a smart signing. Four game-winning goals before the middle of November. Darn good.
