gawd i hope so. he got his 500th goal (515) and doesn't bring physicality to his game: if he doesnt score he's useless, whereas Roenick hits every game and gives 100% effort every shift

Who really cares? Roenick sucks. Id MAYBE like him to replace Domi on TSN broadcasts, but even that is questionable.

Have you seen him play?

He still works hard every shift, got 28 points in 70 games playing few minutes on a checking line, hits among Top-15 centres in the conference and still maintains a better face-off percentage than Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau suggesting he will continue to be put into the circle in crucial game situations.

Anyone who watches him play has to think he's an effective checking line player.

I suppose... I just think that washed up bums like this, such as the Flames very own Tony Amonte, Jeff Friesen (who wasnt quite as bad) and Darren McCarty need to retire earlier than they are.

I agree in principle. Many veterans are "washed up bums", bring little more than scoring and when they lose that they look pathetic.

But the Trevor Lindens and Jeremy Roenicks are still valuable role players on back lines at cheap salaries: of value.

We'll have to see I suppose. Im pretty sure Roenick will probably see some press box on the sharks team during some games. I also know some sharks fans will hate that front office isnt giving the younger guys as much of a chance after a signing like this.

The Sharks are contenders going for the cup now.

Prospect development is for the farm and the Columbus BlueJackets.

(btw... The same 'taking a youngster's spot' argument was used by a few - not most - Canucks fans when Linden signed a contract last summer. Trevor went on to silence those critics. No damn rookie was gonna do better than he did down the stretch and in the playoffs, even his teammates came up short of his effort and accomplishments.)

Yeah I guess rookies/sophomores and general young players like Ryan Getzlaf, Cory Perry, Dustin Penner, Travis Moen, Ondrej Meszaros, Antoine Vermette, Thomas Vanek, Jason Pominville, Brian Campbell, Johan Franzen, Niklas Kronwall, Kyle Quincey etc... all didnt have much of an impact in helping their teams reach either the stanley cup final or the conference finals...

gawd you just like to argue don't you?

Are you saying there are those kinds of rookies waiting in the wings to play on the Sharks fourth line but Roenick is taking that spot?

Because if we aren't using specifics then you could use the rookie ice time argument against signing any checking line veteran.

Many believe Pavelski needs to be on a scoring line or out of the league until he learns to be more responsible defensively. None of the ones you mention are quality checking line centres on a team in search of the President's Trophy and home ice advantage throughout the playoffs.

There's more discussion than objecting to or criticizing what others say. You just seem very combative, and need to have the last word apparently, on any thread.

Most of my 5000+ posts on HfBoards are pleasant discussions about hockey, about ten percent of which are good debates. But there's a few posters who seem to always want to argue. I'm just saying you demonstrate that.

Bernier Clowe and Pavelski all saw time on the checking line and Setoguchi hits harder than 80% of junior league players IMO.

I understand what you're saying IF roenick does in fact play on the 4th line. Im not sure that it will be the case though since they already have Grier, Brown, Goc, Rissmiller and maybe even the aforementioned Bernier, Clowe and Pavelski?

Im not so sure they did sign him for the 4th line. Im sure he'll play there some, but Im sure he'll get some time on other lines as well which ultimately will drop the young guys, who are more than ready, down in the depth chart.
