RE: Sean Avery

Phoenix upped the ante.

At the very least, the Leafs will get the Coyotes 1st round pick (which Phoenix indeed has).

Or will they...

Will they indeed. PHX has 2 different 1st round picks. We should clarify the rules, should I decide not to match. Which pick would be used? Team option, league option? Just needs full clarification in the rule book.

I've completed a trade that moved out PHX 1, so I only own 1 first rounder.

STL 1 is yours if I win the bidding on Avery and you decide to take compensation.

Rules still need to be clarifed for situations where teams do have multiple picks, to avoid any issues.

he's 28 years old... he's got a qualifying offer but doesn't like it, so he doesn't get paid and doesnt play... until hell freezes over, they reach an agreement or he becomes UFA age, whichever comes first

In regards to this, just because a player has a qualifying offer, doesn't mean he doesn't test the market.   Avery was given a qualifying offer, but he still can test the market as he didn't agree to a contract.

Huh?  I'm confused.   Someone wants to offer me Zajac for Avery, they can have him!

nah was saying he traded zajac for the pick that would go for compensation for avery...assuming you take compensation.

If anyone hadn't seen, Toronto allowed Avery to join the Coyotes and took the 1st round pick.

I think that was a foregone conclusion once I offered over 3 million.  Though we never did get any response from the league about how compensation would work if I had two first rounders...
