that's where the following year's 1st rounder would be used, probably

As far as I know you must have appropriate compensation in order to bid. That would be a 1st rounder this year, or one next year as long as you've paid for next year.

I honestly don't think that is right...  It has to be a 2008 first rounder in my opinion.  And if you don't have one, it should have to be better than the one you have (not worse), or additional compensation (i.e. 2nd rounder) should be due.

you'd think the committee would decide what adequate compensation would be in such cases

he's 28 years old... he's got a qualifying offer but doesn't like it, so he doesn't get paid and doesnt play... until hell freezes over, they reach an agreement or he becomes UFA age, whichever comes first

Huselius signed, he's irrelevant.

If you dont have a 1st rounder, you would't be able to bid on him, just like in the NHL (though we don't specify it has to be your own pick)

If you have two first rounders, one your own, and one someone elses... who's do you use?  I'd say it's up to the team giving up the pick, but that's my opinion.

If the team has their own it's got to be that pick. However, I wouldnt be opposed to if the team has 2 picks and neither are their own, then the team could pick.
