GarrettLeafs just proved that there is a positive side to it. As I said: ensures that at least he gets a 1st rounder.
A smart move, though I think bidding on your own RFA when they are testing the market shouldn't be allowed and in nearly a dozen FHLsim leagues I've known NEVER has this been done. The g.m. can match any free market offer, that's how it's restricted.
my only concern with the leafs making a 3 mill offer for avery, is that during rfa negiotiations, you have 3 shots at trying to sign a rfa... if you don't, then he should see what interest other teams offer... if one team comes close, then he'll sign the offer sheet and then the team decides whether or not to take the compensation....
granted the ufa period is different in this league than not, but i think that garrett should not be able to place any bids on his rfas.... he had three chances to sign him, avery rejected each one so he wanted to see what else he could get... a reasonable compromise is that garrett's last bid be the beginning point for any potential teams to pick him up, i don't think that a fourth bid should have been disregarded...

We disagree. I view an RFA the same as I would a UFA that was on my team last year who tests the market. I would offer him a contract in UFA, so why wouldn't I try and negotiate in RFA? Sure the offer upped the compensation, but that is just me covering all my bases should I decide to let him walk (which hasn't been decided at this point).
TOR bidding on him is silly because if you didn't want him, why not sign him for 1 million or whatever he demanded, then trade him. If I am willing to give a 1st for him and that inflated salary I surely would have paid even more to get him with a 1 million salary.

He'd been on the block since his last offer was rejected by his agent. Had I received an offer that was worth anything we wouldn't have been going through this. I received zero offers of substance for him.

My bad, I only got here about a week before FA so musta missed that.

For some reason, teams get desperate in free agency and are willing to give more than they would in trade. For instance, I would have taken a 7th rounder for Laraque, who was an RFA with a salary of $1M that I didn't want to pay. Nobody was interested. Now somebody offered him $2.25M as a UFA. Go figure.
garrett cmon now i talked to u all last season about avery and you never REALLY wanted to trade him asking for guys like hemsky for him !!! because you knew you could go bush league and jack his salary up to guarantee a 1st round pick compensation which is the most bush league thing ive ever seen in fhl as this rule will BE CHANGED FORSURE before next offseason as it is totally retarded to allow a team its 4th offer on a guy.. if u have a rfa player test the waters then the team can only MATCH the offer he recieves on the open market... like example from nhl: did anahiem start penner at a 19 million dollar deal just to ensure a 1st 2nd round compensation if anyone did want to sign him??? no because its the stupidest thing ive ever actually heard of in all my life. once he becomes a restricted free agent the team has one week to MATCH the offer no? why was this aloud to happen as just really looking into it, it is got to be the most bush league tactic ive seen.. like me goin over to bryce's house and changing my guys salary's or ratings would be about as classy.
You're funny Kirk. I very much doubt that this is the stupidest thing you've ever seen. Im willing to bet you have done things about 50x as stupid as this.
