RE: Best/Worst UFA deals

I'm not sure on the exact timing, but I am pretty sure he must have placed that bid on Yelle before he traded Jovo.  Thus breaking the rules.

I don't mind the Weight deal.....
It is for 1 year, you have the cash, there was nobody else to spend it on.

Isn't NYR's signing of Yelle breaking the cap?

He's currently just under 47 million before the yelle contract even get's on his books...

Looks like Kariya is sitting the first 10 games of the season, and NYR is losing $2,000,000

I think he already cut 2M by trading Arnott for Jovo. As long as that trade goes through he will be fine.

The rules are pretty clear. You cant conditionally bid on playres. If the move puts you over the cap then you're over the cap. He cant say "Ill bid only if the jovo deal goes through."  Its very plain english. He should be fined as per the rules.

Its lazy and wreckless management.

 I disagree....

First, he may have known the deal was going through when he made the bid. For all we know he was choosing between 3 different deals

Second, he didn't make a conditional bid. If he couldn't trade a player he would have been stuck with the consequences.

At no point was he actually over the cap. It is a tightrope walk, but as long as the trade was made before the player actually signed, I have no problem with it.

I could see that side of the story if the bid on his player was set to expire AFTER the actual official announcement of the trade was made, but if it expired prior to the trade announcement and Eric just hadnt updated it yet, then that to me is over the cap.

Here's the deal boys, I appreciate your concerns........................trash talking but I'm neither lazy or reckless.  But I appreciate your hurtful comments just the same.

The deal is I sent in my bid on  Yelle on the 27th,  5 days ago,  I'm still waiting for it to be updated.  I also have around 6 deals pending that i'm waiting to be updated as well, that were made after the Yelle bid.   Of course I was mindful of my numbers with each deal and each and every bid.  Once all my deals go through and the site is finally updated you'll see the numbers work.

We have a cap of 47 mil in the offseason and once the season starts we need to be at 44.   I dont have my numbers in front of me but I should be around 43mil or just over the 44 I believe which would put me well under the 47 mil in which I have to work with until the start of the season.   I feel like you guys are purposely trying to bust my balls with this stuff.    I do my own thing and i'm trying to better my team.  I dont bust anyones balls here, I just try to be a good regular guy.  Please have faith in me here boys, I've been with the league since day 1.  I'm no rookie and I wish I recieved the respect I deserve in this league just like I fully extend to all of you.  -Joe   NYRGM

I don't think peoples concerns are with your current salary numbers but with the fact that the Yelle bid, at the time, may have put you over the 47 mil limit imposed for the offseason.  Remember, a bid cannot put you over the cap limit.

Yeah we arent busting your balls NYR. A rule is a rule and its impossible for the commishes to notice everything. So when something arises, usually GMs are going to take note of it.

If a team ever does go over the cap, I'm probably always going to use the word careless or wreckless because quite frankly I think thats what it is. Its not very hard to do the math to figure stuff out. A well managed team should never go over the cap. I honestly dont think the Sabres will ever go over the cap except for one scenario which is out of our hands and that is if we have an injury to a guy who makes like 450,000 and the sim auto calls up a guy whos like 1M. But thats not even against the rules cause its our of our hands and we'd adjust it as soon as we possibly could to make sure we are back under.

he still hasnt gone over the cap, so whats the problem??

atlanta made a deal after his bids, that would have put him over 47.... but he just dealt someone else and got under 47 by the time the guy was signed..

The problem is that the rule states you cannot make a bid that puts you over 47.. this is not talking about the guy thats signed but when you email the bid.

but that bid is essentially counting towards your salary until you are outbid or officially sign him.. have moves after put you over that threshold?

the league rejected the deal as it would have put nyr over the cap... also how is this atlanta's problem the deal should go threw and NYR have to either make another move or buyout a player no?
