i provided a site last year putting lehtinen at center, and was told it wasnt valid........

dont you think that may have affected my chances of putting a goal or two in the net since i was so weak at center after dealing sillinger on deadline day?

cause i certainly do and am not happy about it

its probably cause it was some hack site.  Just like our canoe article is a bit of a joke.

The site we provided that likely did the trick was TSN.ca

I dont understand how moving Olli to RW is "unrealistic". Every single team in the NHL flip flops players around all night long, all season long.

So flip flopping our guys if we provide sources isnt really that unrealistic at all. I think this is another rule that has to be more closely defined, mind you.

I think we should just have a list of reputable sources that are available. I think they should include basically any network that does NHL coverage. So with the five included we should also have the following and MAYBE MORE:
cbs.sportsline.com
sportsnet.ca
versus.com (not sure about this one, but they do NHL coverage)

We should also have to define if a little blurb in an article that says he can play wing counts as a positional change or not. I think bigger networks it should be ok, such as TSN, sportsnet etc...

We are within the rules, but maybe we've discovered a weakness in the existing description of the rule and if the league wants to redefine it, then they can; however,
no other rules have been made retroactively, so this one would have to be the same if it does get altered.

Of all the arguments, this one seems the most inane so far.

The sites listed mean "Find me a players page on a site that has a profile and stats that lists the player as a LW"

When the Oilers were short on the blueline, they could move a forward back...but that doesn't mean I could put Toby Petersen on my blueline for 82 games.

Put one link of a profile for Jokinen in this thread that has him as a winger.  If you can't then you haven't provide the league with what is required to move him.

Other than that this whole discussion is moot and a waste of time.  Why do people want to crush the spirit of competition by trying to find the one minute way to bend the rules in their favour?  (Like trying to draft Ovechkin a year early because of leap years...like, don't be an idiot or anything....)

Notice how careful tsn is to differentiate a c/w from a c/lw from a c and from a lw and from a lw/rw/

Ollie Jokinen is a c.

THIS particualr league is gonna take the "loose interpretation" of any comment saying he "can" play the position, regardless whether he "did" or didn't last season.

It is nice to get some clarity on the rules and their interpretation. And rules do need to be interpreted according to their application and this league is using the unorthodox approach of allowing "in a pinch" side comments as sufficient for season-long poistional changes.

Fine! ... but just so that we're clear, and know what to look for, in doing so ourselves.

Put one link of a profile for Jokinen in this thread that has him listed as a winger.  If you can't then you haven't provide the league with what is required to move him.

That is the standard interpretation.

I'm amazed at this ridiculous thread to be honest with you.

Game over.

Legends of Hockey is a very reputable source, in fact, considered THE source for the history of hockey, produced by the hockey hall of fame.

It says there that Fedorov is "Equally superb at center or on the wing" so that means I can move him to left wing?

http://www.legendsofhockey.net:8080/LegendsOfHockey/jsp/SearchPlayer.jsp?player=10455

Excuse me, I have a positional change to put in. He only played c/d last season but he "can" play wing just as well, so I guess that counts.

Actually Jokinen can be moved to goalie in a pinch.  Not game over.  The rules indicate that you need a link to a valid site "PROVING" the player can play the position.  If you are this adamant, email TSN to change his profile.

Just because a player is physically capable of playing a position, doesn't mean that you can move him there because it is convenient for you.

Just because a player might have had 6 shifts over the course of a season at a position doesn't mean that he should be able to be played there for an entire season.  That is why you need a link with proof that he plays the position.

(Think about what the spirit of the rule is and not your team.)

George, I agree with you entirely.

As a member of the Board of Directors, perhaps you guys can talk about tightening the interpretation of the rule.

I quit the BOD, as I was going to leave the league. (Partially because of ridiculous arguments over stupid things.)

Although I am glad I stayed. pimp.gif

jokinen has never played wing ever EVER EVER and in a pinch like say 5 of your players got caught in a traffic accident on way to game in a "pinch wouldnt team allow all there d-men in the press box to play forward " is this like the example we send in when switching players positions. man bryce and eric need to watch a lil hockey and not as much bumb darts. this league is getting hilariolus with people bending rules.

you just volunteered for a 1 million fine, congrats

really this is about as overblown as something can be, if you find a reputable source saying a player can play there, then he can be moved, it's really not that complicated

Yeah right... the league sure didnt "bend" the rules when we took David Perron who was eligible in the draft... Give me a break, we have to follow the rules like any taem does.  Theres nothing wrong with being innovators, we run everything through Eric and Bryce and they let us know whats what.
