Buffalo Sabres Draft Review


2nd - Jonathan Toews - Future all star
3rd - Erik Johnson - Future number 1 dman
14th - Nikolai Kulemin - Tied for RSL scoring title at 20 years old. Slight risk.
31 - Francois Bouchard - Led QMJHL in scoring including 32 pt cushion over any teammate. NHL bloodlines.
52 - Petri Kontiola - Led Finnish team in scoring, signed two way NHL deal.
61 - Daniel Girardi - Played 30 odd NHL games for NYR last season. Potential top 4 dman
73 - David Moss - 10+8 in 41 games last year for the Flames with limited Ice time. Potential 2nd or 3rd liner.
89 - Janne Niskala - Older Euro player, offensive defenceman. Signed with NSH.
99 - Derrick Lapoint - Solid 2nd USHL year. Has committed to UND. Large dman with offence.
100 - Cory Murphy - Older veteran dman whos been in Europe. Played on team Canada in WC. Signed with FLA.
112 - Jonathan Ericsson - Successful first AHL year, large dman, signed and drafted by Detroit. 1-2 years away.
121 - Nicklas Hjalmarsson - Hard hitting, good defensive, smaller dman. Signed to a two way contract with CHI.
138 - Felix Schutz - Smaller offensive forward. Buffalo drafted. Successful WJHC and QMHJL seasons.
142 - David Laliberte - Led QMJHL team in scoring as a 20 year old. Late bloomer. Signed by Philly
151 - Jonas Hiller - Veteran European goaltender. Signed by ANA,
170 - TJ Galiardi - Solid NCAA season. Project player.
172. Logan Pyett - Detroit drafted, offensive defenceman. Decent size.
208 - Nathan Gerbe - 2nd in team scoring on NCAA championship runner up B.C. team. Smaller, lightning fast. High reward, low risk.

The three guys I like are the two obvious ones....and Hjalmarsson.  Nice draft.

Thanks George, we really like Hjalmarsson too. We went on a tear with dman in the middle of the draft, 5 straight, ending with Hjalmarsson.

nice one with Hjalmarsson, Gerbe was a good pickup that late as well- he's a little energy ball when I see BC play. Sadly don't see him being more than a very good AHLer (Haydar-ish).
