After days of rumours and speculation, the Boston Bruins held a press conference today to annouce that the team has traded Chris Pronger, MA Fleury, Maxime Talbot and Tony Salmelainen to the Detroit Red Wings. "It is a sad day for this organization, as it sees us deal our 2nd pick in the dispersal draft as MA Fleury goes, and my man crush on Chris Pronger is well documented, but ultimately, for the long-term goals of this organization, this was a deal we had to make."
Coming to Boston to replace Fleury in the pipes is highly regarded Ray Emery, replacing Pronger on the blueline is emerging all-world defenseman Dion Phaneuf, and giving the team another top 2 line young forward is the acquisition of PM Bouchard. The team also received a 2nd and 3rd in the upcoming draft.
"The only dman in the league I would have built a trade around for Pronger is Dion" GM Shuck stated, "We consider the goalies a virtual wash in FHL terms, but the upgrade from Talbot to Bouchard we felt was significant enough to pull the trigger. I'm veyr confident that PM will have a huge NHL season, and make this deal look like a real coup for years to come."
This trade definetely fits the mold of a blockbuster and the Bruins continue to model their team for the upcoming season.
Pronger is the best defenseman in the NHL, and to have him locked up for at least the next four seasons at under $6.5 million is a bargain in my book.
Fleury is the best young goalie in the league, will be a Vezna contender in the near future.
Gave up alot, but got alot back. Good deal for both clubs
