Hawks look to contend...sooner rather than later (1 OV moved)

GM's Yee and Bachul decided to make a trade for the  now.  Gone is the NYI first which is first overall with Milan Hejduk and Tomas Plekanec.  In return the Hawks bring in Superstar Vincent Lecavalier and a 2nd rounder in 2008.

"We hummed and hawwed for an hour.  We had to do it." said Bachul.  "When a player of that calibre is available..you have to say yes."

More deals to come.

The Hawks were not yet done.  Looking at an available goalie, Niklas Backstrom was another added player.  The Hawks sent Shane O'Brien, Ryan Craig and Rene Bourque to the Rangers for Backstrom and Danny Fritsche.

The Hawks look very strong in goal with Huet and Backstrom to platoon.

If it wasn't enough getting a good number one goalie, one of the top forwards in the league, the Hawks decided to put some of their depth to work again in acquiring Patrick Marleau.

To the Leafs go Gilbert Brule, Mike Richards and the 6th pick in the draft.  The Leafs toss in a 3rd to the Hawks.

In their fourth major trade in 24 hours, the Hawks continue their roster transformation by bolstering their blueline in a swap of Andrei's and picks.

To Chicago:
Andrei Markov
FLO 3 2008

To Florida:
Andrei Kostitsyn
CHI 1 2007

And the new-look Blackhawks continue to take shape. In desparate need of a winger to round out thier top 6 and to play with newly aquired Vincent Lecavalier, Chicago once again utilized their depth of assets to get their man:

To Anaheim:
Dan Fritshie
Freddy Meyer IV
2007 CLB 3

To Chicago:
Marco Sturm

still not sure how this backstrom deal slipped past the BOD. especially after NYR "didnt realize" that Backstrom would be a 79 OV....

pretty shady

fritsche is more valuable to me than either Craig or Bourque, so that's a very cheap trade to acquire a #1 goalie.

The re-shaping of the Chicago Blackhawks franchise continues. Having recently aquired Finnish goalie Niklas Backstrom, Chicago management decided to capitalize on the market demands for starting netminders and to try to address their forward depth. Subsequently, they were presented with an opportunity they just couldn't pass up:

To LA Kings:
G Christobal Huet

To Chicago Blackhawks:
C David Legwand
2008 FLA 2

Deal should have never gone through the BOD.  I've had tons of deals rejected that werent even close to how bad I got raped in this one.  What the hell happened.  Had I privy'd to the brhl1 knowledge and roster list that Backstrom would be rated 79ov of course i never would have traded him.  Where was the board on this one guys??????

1. You've had no deals rejected in the BRHL2 as far as I can remember
2. Everyone had privy to the ratings as it was mentioned roughly 10,000 times that they were the same.
3. The board looked at it, and while the Hawks undoubtedly win the deal, at the end of the day, if we start covering for the ignorance of GM's no deals will ever get processed. You have NO-ONE to blame but yourself for trading him when you had no clue what his OV would be.

I just want to say that i remember last season one gm's ignorance was covered last season when the deal i made with LA(not the current gm) was vetoed because it was deemed unfair. Now the LA gm made the deal on his own free will, But still it was vetoed I guess becasue enough people cried about it. Im not in anyway attacking you guys (Bryce and Eric) but deals have been covered up before. I did majorly win that deal with LA kind of like the way chicago won this deal.

BUT there is a difference between incompetance (LA) and ignorance (NYR)....Which is where the line is drawn.

By no way am I trying to "slander" you Joe, I don't think you're ignorant, but you undoubtedly dropped the ball on this one, by not checking the facts before trading a guy.
