They can have him. Penner is horrible. He is lazy and inconsistent when I have seen him play. Not only that, but I think he will have a lot of trouble when put in a 1st line situation (which I assume he would be at $4mill per season). I can't imagine Anaheim matching this unless MAYBE Selanne and/or Niedermayer tell Burke now he/they are not coming back for sure....
Just to clear up the rules: I heard on the radio here in Toronto that Penner loves playing in SoCal and they don't understand why he would want to leave at this time in his career. Does Penner have to agree to this offer before the sheet is signed or what? I always thought players had to but this makes me wonder.
Yeah, Penner has to sign the offer sheet. It is basically an NHL contract that he has already signed, and the Ducks either take it or leave it for the Oil. And sure, he probably does like playing in SoCal, but would you rather play in SoCal for $1.8mill per year or Edmonton for $4.2 mill per year?
