Opinions on Trades- Preseason 2007

Wow- Interesting trade for NYI with Chicago- Would have liked to see NYI hold on to Backstrom though.

Backstrom is better than McDonald value wise IMO.

Depends on the team needs.....as good as Backstrom could be, he could also be a bust, whereas McDonald is a proven 75+ point player.

I think it is a good deal for both teams.

Same, good deal for both of us. McDonald is locked in for 4 years under 4 million and as a top six forward with his ratings that is pretty good. He's insanely fast in the sim, plus has solid SC, pC and PA. He should be great in BRHL2 for the next few years while I wait on Backstrom to get useable ratings.

i'm happy the way the team is coming along now with Stastny-Brassard-Backstrom down the middle idea

In response to rex's comment I'm ok for the cap, I sent in lines yesterday and I'm at about 45.5M with this trade.

what does everyone think about the latest trade???

To Phoenix: Guerin*, McDonald*, Nolan*, Pothier, Westcott

To NYI: Holik, Zidlicky, Markov, Lapointe, Hanzal, Ruzicka, 6th, 6th, $ 6 million

(The players with * asterix need a one-season no-trade clause as part of the deal to move there. They don't want to be moved anywhere until next summer the earliest).

nyi THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping me win the division with 0 opposition this season...

but im wondering why you took the pu-pu-platter featuring hanzal as the only real prize...

youve gone from a real defense to nothing in the span of 3 trades (chi-was-pho)

although, IMO, holding onto backstrom would have been the best solution to your long-term needs...

And phoenix.... welcome back into the fold of playoff contenders... i guess my power-rankings column will need updated..

Just for Jay:

i guess a package of 3 1sts and allowing you to hold onto guerin and westcott wouldnt have worked better for you though?? is your plan out of spite?

Jeff Glass is a good goaltending prospect. Zaba is a netminder who has develioped nicely over his NCAA years, was on my radar screen last season and has done some good things in the recent Rangers training camp. Bodnarchuk had a great year in the Q sharing team MVP honours and finishing second in league scoring for a defenseman, developing nicely. Popov was chosen for the recent Super Series but yeah, at his age and russian pace of game-level development, he's not ready for quite a while. The Red Wings have signed Ritola to an entry-level contract.

I don't take just any prospects in trade. I target guys I want, research to get many different kinds of scouting info, then make a personal assessment. I LIKE these prospects very much.

I gave up Sanderson and Perreault, both UFA signings, so basically just cost me cash in the first place. Lydman cost a first rounder, true, but prospects more than make up for it. The question is whether Mara was too much, and that depends on the prospects, yet with their development and/or talent as i see it, it's a good trade off.

don't bank on it smile situations can change pretty quick

(you are lucky Pittsburgh didn't pull the trigger on an earlier blockbuster offer from me that would have made the Pens a contender)

yeah Jeff Glass was a good goaltending prospect 2 years ago, now he's looking ...well.. terrible.

Bodnarchuk, as a Bruin fan...I would be ecstactic if he became an NHLer to any degree in the next 4-5 years.

Zaba is a 24 year old goalie prospect from the NCAA on tryout basis with an NHL club? How many of them pan out? Plus he'd be behind Lundqvist AND Montoya?!

I don't know anything about Ritola or Popov but they better be awesome to warrant moving Lydman and Mara.
