to columbus- nyr 2nd, anahiem 2nd..

this trade will not be processed until monday when they NYR 2nd is re-aquired in a previous deal with phoenix.

Seriously this has to be vetoed, wtf is going on. Why do you GMs keep trading with Kirk??? All he does is rip you off. Future stud 1st pairing dman for two 2nds in a bad draft, confusedconfusedconfusedconfusedconfused

I'm not as high on Smid as most are but this deal is very confusing to me.

Agreed. Young NHL Dmen who was a top 10 pick himself and has only continued to develop for 2 2nd's in a average to below average 2nd round.

I don't understand what Columbus is doing.

Smid is 70 ov and the 4th best rated defenseman in Columbus. Now there are only three pro team quality blueliners on the team. What is the team doing? Where is it headed?

1) That is an awful trade.
2) How can a deal be official if you don't have the asset you are trading yet?

If Columbus was rebuilding they wouldn't trade young cheap Smid they'd trade old vets Modano. Laperriere, some of their ten pro team thirtysomethings!

maybe they are watching the canada russia prospects game and are looking for picks now like rex has done recently after telling me he has a hard on for gagne lol sorry rex if i ruined it (but i think when u say NYR, VAN 1st won move because ur targetting oilers prospects hes the one no?)
maybe clb is scared smid will be smothered and not get much ice time with souray pitkanen staios greene tarnstrom grebeshkov gilbert and himself all on the edmonton blueline

i like how everyone thinks CLB should rebuild he is one or two assets away from being a very good team in the west

I can see the points made and to me personally picks dont really matter as far as holding onto them because I wheel and deal so much that I need to use that pick as an asset now to be able to acquire what I need, maybe thats what  CLB is doing, maybe he has another deal in the works where he needs those 2nds??

The other thing is Smid is young......YES and pretty good.........YES   BUT, he's behind several good players and I rank him around 6th/7th on the dman depth chart for this upcoming season making him  expendable.    Who knows always other angles to look at.  I've dealt with CLB in past and he's a tough negotiator and values his team and assets.   This is by no means a tank job.  At least I dont think so.

the team has said good bye to the team number one goalie evgny nabokov an unrestricted free agent.. with the teams re-aquiring of rod the bod the team looked to move nabokov for a capable starter for this staggering pro roster the team has put together playing goal in a combination with super rated backup mike smith, will be chris mason.. the team was also able to get some mid round picks with mason for the UFA in nabokov.

the team can now use their tag on rod the bod. also the team was happy to shed almost two more million from their cap.

the final deal looked like

mason, atl 3rd, stl 5th, atl 6th for nabby
