I am gonna have to agree with Philippe on this one for a change. I don't see him bitching, he is just bringing up the same point he brought up earlier in the year, and it is a point I also agree with. In last year's ratings there was not enough range used is the goalie ratings (specifically PC, SK, SP). This drastically reduces the need to have a top notch goalie. The problem I have with this, is it is not NHL-like. In the NHL if you do not have a top notch goalie you better have a damn stacked team. And like Philippe says, when Tim Thomas is winning the Vezina, there is likely a problem with the rates.
i dont think the purpose of this post was for people to pre-bitch about ratings.....
specifically when 9/10ths of the league hasn't seen them yet.
so those of you that have, keep it under your hat until they are released, and then feel free....
(this brings up an entirely different PROBLEM of why some of the BOD members who did have access to the ratings before the rest of us, have been involved in trade talks since that period in time. Just saying... any deals immediately announced after ratings are released should be HEAVILY SCRUTINIZED)

Hence the point that trading shouldn't be made without seeing them, and it's not BOD members seeing them, it's people in the BRHL as the ratings have been released there for awhile. We're just converting them over, and shoudl be good to go early this week (waiting for Eric's update on that).
As far as the discrepency between goalies, how much is there actually in the NHL? How much of a difference is there really between a Ray Emery and a Ryan Miller? Sure the elite guys are clearly the elite, but the crop between 5-15 are arguably interchangeable.
I think the ratings are our best yet, and they accurately reflect the abilities or opportunities that players had in the prior NHl season, which is what we're trying to immulate.
Bryce, the point I was making is that some of us have not seen the ratings, and with deals going on there is the potential for someone who has seen the ratings to try to dupe other GMs.
Obviously I agree that teams should probably wait until the ratings are released to make a deal... but for myself I never look at the ratings when making a trade anyways... and other GMs Im sure do the same.... but for those that do go by ratings..... well.

I agree with you to some extent, but the difference between players like Kipper and Mason are quite a bit more than 6 overall ratings on a sim. THe way the sim is set up, its quite simple for a goalie at 78 to win the vez. In my other league i dealt luongo because toskala at 78 was outperforming him consistently. Mason is a good goalie yes, but kipper is top 5 in the league and i bet if you simmed 100 games with the exact same team but mason and kipper switched it wouldnt be more than a 5 game difference. I guess i'd just like to see goalies like cloutier at 55 and brodeur at 90.

Which agains brings me to the league stipulation that no trades can be sent in prior to trading opening or it won't be processed. Because of this scenario. I can pretty much bet right now that at least one of these pre-arranged deals will be renigged on once ratings are out, and then we'll have someone mad because he thought he had a player and made 4 deals after that to make his team up and blah blah. And frankly, tough **** to whomever that happens to. Thats the point of NOT doing deals until the freeze is lifted, and pretty much everyone here has seen this before, and likely will again.

I know for my ratings I did hours of test to determine the value of goalies and how spread out they should be. What I found is the difference between average starters (6-24) should be about 8 in OVR and right now it's 4 in the BRHL1 ratings. In my tests I was swapping goalies teams and simmed probably close to 50 seasons and I also considered the fact that for some strange reason in FHL the better your goalie is, the lower your shots against. I think the value of goalies in my ratings is very accurate and close to the value they have in the NHL. I think this would be a great improvement to the ratings and it takes 15 minutes to do.
