Jokinen perry Macdonald Stempniak Vlasic (no Goalie)
Columbus-An aging team losing a ton of players this year to UFA and many other core players in the next 2 or 3 years-Could very well have the same problem next year without a dispersal
Sakic (gone) Modano (2 years left) Kariya (1 year left) Gagne Gionta Recchi (gone) Boucher (gone) Vokoun (2 years left)
0 prospects 0 picks for this year
Basically leaving the team with Gagne, Gionta.
Just seems like its the logical solution to new teams comming in. Anyone else agree or disagree?
A dispersal draft for the four new teams would make sense. But, at the same time, FHL is like real world in giving a new g.m. the chance to turn a franchise around, perhaps go into rebuilding mode for a season or two, and fill the cupboards.
I am not a big fan of dispersal drafts for continuity reasons, nor do I think any of the teams remaining are in such bad a shape as to need it (although I did choose Florida over Washington and Columbus, but I would have taken one of those if there was no choice).
The other problem is the delay...I am already looking my team over and will probably start making RFA offers and talking trades today. It would be kind of annoying to have to wait until new GMs are found, until we can all get together at the same time as the commishes, and a draft is run. Besides that, the commishes probably have a lot going on right now.
Also no team is in like terrible terrible shape, but Columbus is definately worse. And if you look at Det its definately significantly better. Why should one team pay 50 bucks and get a stud team handed to them, when another team pays 50 to inherit a team that will cost 200 dollars to rebuild? Also, this year's teams are in pretty good shape but take a look at the rosters (not naming any) and tell me if you'd take over some of them.
We already have some volunteers to help run the draft. We could easily do it in a week's time-Monday-Friday 10 rounds a day-6 people-thats 60 picks (The same as 2 rounds for the whole league which we did sometimes last year) We could start on monday and be done before anything happends significantly. We've all been waiting for 2 months now- I think we can wait another week to ensure fairness.
I think that if there is time we should try to atleast have some type of dispersal draft. I can't see many GMs sticking around for the 2-4 years that it takes to re-build a team while paying the 50$. I think that without a dispersal draft we will see a higher turn over rate amoungst new Gm's. One of the most important things for a new league is for it to be able to retain a majority (85-95%) of it's Gm's form season to season. I think that having a dispersal draft would help to do this, especially in the yearly years of the league.
Fill all six teams and then have a dispersal draft otherwise the people coming in get off to such a bad bad start. You are going to be filling some of the same teams every season. Not only that because of the cost it gives the new owners some sense of ownership and their hands on start to a team. It could help justify the cost to others looking to get in.
The Dispersal draft was an idea to consider if the league had trouble not filling up. However, the response to the advertisements and referrals was quicker than expected. The league has filled up. ((Yes, NEWS to everyone, that we have a full league)). The teams were taken on an AS-IS basis.
The dispersal draft doesn't need to take place, and we will not need to complicate things. Maybe sometime down the road a dispersal draft is something we consider. However at this point in the league, I don't think it's an option that would make the most sense.

My other suggestion instead of a dspersal draft fo rnext year maybe would be to have different prices for teams ranging from 30-70 or something for the first season depending on the strength of the team and after that it's all 50.
I think that a good way to gauge thing would just to look at how much money each team made. And depending on how much it made you could make adjustments to the rosters or to the franchise fee.
IMO, something definitely has to be done in the terms of a dispersal draft for the 6 franchises under new management.
I think a complete dispersal would be silly and time consuming, because of the hassle of getting everyone together to go through 40 rounds.
However, I think this is a situation that can be remedied VERY, VERY, easily.
Only the top 10 assets from each team are available in the "dispersal" draft.
This way there is no way for Was, CBJ, to feel like they got hosed when they came in.... It will also allow for a very good mixture of vets and young guys to be available to everyone.... Det, Fla, NJ would still have better depth, or prospects, or whatever, and thus cannot feel as though they were "jilted" by the league.
I truly feel this is the only way to proceed because as Carolina posted, it will be harder and harder to entice GMs to join down the road on an "as-is" basis.
Lets get this right from the start. I honestly don't see how this could cause 1 iota of negative feedback.

Get ahold of me soon, or my players will already be dealt!
Being new GM's at this point, we'd agree, because it would benefit us. But having said that, this league is only 1 year old. What happens in 5 or 6 years when we have to replace more gm's. The teams that built their team might not want to give up players. If they spent all that time building, they might not like it being gutted so to speak. I think as time goes by, the BOD will have to be careful with trades and such. This could be a solution so that outgoing GM'S don't gut a team like ours right now. Again, we joined this league and know our team is in rough shape. We are prepared to accept it as is. We'll do the work and hope we get cooperation from GM's and from player agents. A dispersal draft might not be the way to go, maybe a break in contract negotiations could work. But this is obviously our opinion and it's up for discussion. Either way, whatever is best for all involved should win out.
Extending Sakic's contract for a year wont help you-it will only delay the problem. If you want to try and sign all your UFAs it will cost you way to much and you wont fit under the cap.
I think moving a player like kariya for a player like cammaleri is beneficial in this situation so you have some youth.
Either way If i were you i'd be pushing for dispersal of some sort.
I think the new Gms sort have got to understand that while all Gms might be happy or at least relatively- Some sort of choosing of your own team is what is best for the league (as Philly stated)
