Until we agree on criteria for GM of the year.....I simply ask myself, with which GM would I most like to swap rosters win...in other words, if I could have any team, which one would i want.....
PHO, im not ignoring team performance...i agree that its part of the package...GM of the year should not only be about best team on paper...
Sorry Phoenix I didn't get the tone of your post just because I don't really know you but outraged was a bit of a strong word lol. This is the first year so we all started from the first point. I think we should focus on this year more than the future as well, although I think San Jose and Buffalo have great teams I don't think they deserve it. Personally I'm looking for: -Team who is in the the playoffs and preferably 2nd round -Team who has few UFA's and is in good shape for next year. -Team who's been active and has made good trades.
I think other than my team I can say there's one team that scares me right now and that scares me next year and that's New Jersey.
If assistant GM's have a say, i will vote for PHO, that is of course, if they all deside to buy me a beer, and i will happily sit down with them and make sure they aren't lying about #7 on the list!
Done and done. As long as you do not consider Coors Sh*t (aka Coors Light) beer then we can work something out.
The plan is working. Soon we will have enough votes to de-thrown the current commish(s) and take over this league.......I mean get the GM's of the Year Award, ya, that's what I meant.
I say vote for me... I live in the Brew City (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) so we have the whole 'beer thing' covered. I drafted in a crappy spot, won a tough division, and knock on wood am in a good position to make a charge in the playoffs. I also am American which means I 'must' function at some sort of hockey handicap, right? Lastly, if you don't vote for me I hex you to have George Bush to be the next Canadian prime minister.

And you only have 80 posts, which places you tops in my books. That means you only post when necessary.
GM of the year should have nothing to do with post on the message board and stories. It should be based on where the team was based at the start of the year, where the team finished, moves made and the roster that was put together.

Yes and no... if we adopt your narrow conception of g.m. of the year, then improvement over the year won't be a criterion per se since this is out first year, instead it will be: 1) DRAFTING, who was great at drafting; 2) TRADING, who improved their team short term OR long term through trades; 3) LINE FORMATIONS, who at least submitted lines; 4) FINANCES, who put their team in a healthy position financially, which could mean a low payroll playoff-missing team, or a medium payroll playoff bound team, etc
Number 3 is necessary because there's no way a deadbeat g.m. should win g.m. of the year!

Definitely agree with respect to the message board and stories. With regards to the message board posts, quantity is entirely meaningless. 500 posts, if they're all nothing but crap, is worth less than 5 well thought out, articulate posts. With regards to article writing, all that means is that someone has a lot more time to devote to this than others, and it's a higher priority than others. To me that doesn't have anything to do with skill as a GM. Plus, they already get a BRHL2 monetary reward for those, so they're already being compensated there.
