I did sense that Matt was loading up for a short-term run at the cup this postseason with no trades geared to the future it seemed. He has 9 starters that'll not be returning. And there are no NHLers among the farm clubbers or on the prospect list, in fact, all 1st and even 2nd rate prospects are gone from the organization as well as the first four rounds of the draft. Free agency acquisitions will be a bit limited given huge raises expected by RFA Gionta and gagne, with decent increases also likely demanded by RFA Cajanek and Kubina. That said, the team has four stars and nine solid NHLers to build around:

The organization will have 2008 draft picks to sacrifice to get some bodies on defense and might land a second-tier UFA or two to make another immediate cup run, though that'd put the franchise in a precarious position thereafter. Alternatively, high-performing RFA Gionta or Gagne could bring in some prospects and picks to solidify the organization along with some warm bodies for half of the pro roster that'll need filling.
