SO i'm just wondering, but the teams that have guys like Staal and Kessel will never get anything for having them, as far as top 50 prospects?

WHy don't we wait to pay until after the draft? That way the team who has phil kessel will get the 5 bucks or whatever instead of the team with Jeff Schultz.

Actually, this brings up a greater problem, because it is a payout.

If for example someone drafts Backstrom this year, and he makes the NHL in September.....by the time the next one comes out, he will be off the list and the GM won't get paid.  It sounds like the same thing, but it applies as well.

I am in total agreement with the last post Buffalo has said.. if guys who make this list isnt drafted then next season they wont even make the list.. it will give the teams who iddn't make the playoffs a chance to make taht extra 5 dollars towards the following season.

Truthfully it is because we draft a year behind the NHL.  We should be paying the Top 50 prospects based on last year's list....based on the way things are now.

1 Malkin
2 Johnson
3 Ryan
4 Weber
5 Kronwall
6 Fleury
7 Brule
8 Staal
9 Barker
10 Smid

Buffalo is right, this was answered awhile back. THN ranks about 100 guys according to Bryce so it's the top 50 from that list that belong to a BRHL2 team that get paid.

Yes. I recall a commish saying this is how it will be done.

The point of the top 50 prospects is to reward rebuilders and give money to teams with prospects that aren't helping their team. If a guy makes it straight to the NHL then he gets rerated and already benefits you, I don't really find it's necessary to pay that team.
Then if we only pay after the draft it'll be much harder to find new GM's for next season as they can't draft their own prospects.

I think personally it's fine the way it is now.

I think their should just be abonus to any team who drafts a top 50 guy in the form of the payout it is warranted. Its like 1.25 per prospect, if you want that OVER taking a guy who may actually be better then your an idiot. We're crying over spilled milk basically. Itd be REAL SIMPLE to just have the THN top 50 and if you draft one not yet drafted in this summers draft then you get a little extra change in ure pocket, pretty simple and not that big of a deal.

I am not even sure why there is a debate going on here?  It has already been settled months ago.
Bryce announced that since the list will have guys that are not in our league (since they won't be drafted until this coming summer), the first 50 BRHL2 players on the list of 75 will be paid.

What's wrong with Jeff Schultz?   (Leafs say with a grin.)

I thought I posted this yesterday, but the way that Bryce does the draft it is in actuality two years behind the NHL.

How can you offer to pay out for the Top 50 when a good portion of them aren't in the NHL, and even when they are, by the time the Top 50 list comes out, they will be in the NHL and off the list.

I mentioned to Dave, my co-GM that this would be great in rewarding guys who draft perennial top prospects like Ari Ahonen, but guys like Backstom or Toews will never see a payout.

You can't pay out a current Top 50 with the league being behind in the draft.

Well we do. We were told that WHEN the Top-50 list comes out eventually we'll know the payouts. It's all about who'll be PROSPECTS come the off season. Malkin? Kopitar? It's a joke to consider them prospects heading into next season. We know - and they are rated - NHLers.

The purpose of the payouts for prospects are to reward REBUILDERS.

There is a certain degree of suspense and judgement call in assembling prospects - not a sure financial payout - same as with every other money category in a cash league.

It's absurd to think one could look at last year's list to determine which player will bring in cash, and simply trade for them.

While it would be equally absurd to pay out on a list that has 25% of the players not yet drafted into the league and the same players will graduate before the next list comes out.

My NYR currently have 4 on the list and had 7 total at one time before moving 3 towards the deadline.  Oops on my part, should have kept the other 3, but then again i'm not in this for the money, I'm just concerned with bettering my team no matter what.
