the thrashers sent goalie martin gerber to the senators in exchange for barry tallackson, kris rusell, ed belfour and cash. the team was excited about the move landing two good good prospects along with a very capable replacement in belfour for a ufa goalie in gerber is a move the team is very happy with. The team is very excited about the additions of tallackson and russel. We feel tallackson will become a very good powerforward for the devils in the nhl while russel is more than a ppg d-man in the whl which shows his offensive skill. (25 goals 28 assists in 46 games so far for medicine hat) the team is excited about the potential for russell to become the PP QB in columbus in the near future.
Ottawa-- The Sens GM was reached earlier this morning for his reaction to his trade with the Thrashers, which sent Martin Gerber and two late picks to the Sens, while Belfour, Kris Russell and Barry Tallackson are now Atlanta Thrashers.
"I'm thrilled to bring a quality goalie like Martin Gerber to the Senators, we expect Martin to split duties with Ryan (Miller) down the stretch to keep both goalies fresh for the playoffs," said the GM, "we traded a couple of great young players, but our scouts did a great job scouting for the draft and this trade really doesn't hurt our future all that much cause we still have 8 or 9 quality prospects that should join our team in the next year or two and a lot picks in the up coming draft to replace some of the youth we traded."
"Another big factor for us, was the fact that we just cleared around 3.5 million in cap space, so you can expect the Sens to try and bolster our line up a bit more before the deadline to make a run at the cup," added the GM.
