Hawks make playoff push...

The Chicago Blackhawks decided that buying is better than selling.

It is a good thing the found a seller.  After marathon talks with the Vancouver Canucks the Chicago Blackhawks moved youth for some veterans and futures.

Coming the Blackhawks are young veteran Anton Volchenkov, UFA goalie Mike Dunham, goalie prospect JP Levasseur and a 2nd round draft choice.  Heading back to the Canucks are solid prospects Kevin Klein, Lauri Tukonen and Dmitri Patzold.

"Several keys for us here." started GM Bachul.  "We needed a backup to get some starts and McKee isn't ready yet.  Dunham will give us a solid guy to go to the rest of the way."

That wasn't the only playoff implication. "Volchenkov is a very good blueliner and we felt that we had the prospect depth in Suter, Giordano, O'Brien that we could move Klein for a veteran and not be missing out much.  We are also fairly high on the Levasseur kid who was at Canada's camp for the WJC.  He is a bit of a project but is still a decent prospect."

The deal also said something else.  The fanbase shouldn't be concerned about what direction the team is going in, the playoffs are the goal.  For once in many years...the Hawks are buyers.
