Atlanta-San Jose trade

the thrashers have traded centerman jeremy roenick to the san jose sharks for five prospects,

Kamil Kreps, Matt keith, Aaron Voros, Greg Jacina and  Ben Guite.

The deal comes less than a week after jeremy was complaining about icetime with his 4th line demotion. the team likes the package of young players they recieved for one UFA 4th line center..

This is garbage, 5 prospects for a piece of trash that is gonna be gone in a year? No matter who the prospects are, if they are 5th rounders then 1 is worthy of roenick.

Well, I dont know if I would even call any of those 5 guys "prospects"...  so I dont see it as that big of a deal....

Im pretty sure a few of them are more than 5th rounders, that alone is equal payment to the bum Roenick. No? People gotta realize that.

What's the big surprise? There have been more retarded deals in this league than any league I've ever been in. None of those guys are very good, but at his salary I would think it would be really tough to give Roenick away.

And if you want to talk about lousy deals, Zagrapan for what will likely be 1 of Toews, Johnson, Backstrom, Kessel or Staal is just as bad if not worse.

Ok boyz, here is my logic...

I acquire a 73ov Cman who can center my 2nd line..i want to make the playoffs and I have the least GF in the league.....as you all know, ive been contacting everyone on ICQ looking for potential UFAs and i can tell you that there arent that many available..most teams want to keep them for their cup run.....yes some may of been made available at the deadline, but it would of been too late for me by then,.,,,i need help NOW

and seriously people.... what did I really give up?

Guite is a career AHLer

Voros career potential is 4th liner..maybe..likely career AHLer

Matt Keith potential is 4th liner..maybe..likely career AHLer

Greg Jacina potential is 4th liner..maybe..likely career AHLer

Kamil Kreps...rated 7D by HF....likely AHLer or return to Europe.

THEY ALL HAVE LIMITED NHL POTENTIAL....and since its an NHL rerate league, I did not hesitate to move them.

WOW, I really mortgaged the future for Roenick (sarcasm!!)...all the D-grade depth I gave up can easily be replaced via free afency...(lots of 62ovs will be available..haha)

I had openly posted a msg about looking to aquire potential UFAs for "C" and "D" grade prospect...and thats exacly what I did...just like Daze, Nedved and just like Robitaille a few weeks back.

Atlanta knowingly aquired longshots, and I hope it works out for him.....but my team need was a Centerman and I got one.

IF ANYONE ELSE THINKS I GOT "RIPPED OFF"....PLEASE CONTACT ME, ILL GLADLY SEND YOU FUTURE STARS SUCH AS DAVID GOVE, STEVE MARTINS, TREVOR GILLIES, PRESTIN RYAN and MIKE STUART for a 73ov UFA...

Thanks

John, Sharks GM

Wow you sure like to make big deals out of nothing... Roenick's a renter. He's by no means a star anymore, but he's certainly a usable player. His salary is rediculous for what he brings, but so be it. The fact is that the Sharks gave up an abundance of uselessness for an expensive half year renter.

Roenick has... 31 pts and + 5 in 47 games in the BRHL2... that's decent.

Worth a few low-percentage prospects for a Cup run.

But barely.

It's one of those deals that could be accepted or vetoed, depending how trigger happy a trade committee is.

But given the background resources of the respective organizations, it makes sense!! (to me at least)

I do not see any thing wrong with the deal at all either.

Seems to me a few of you guys are disgruntled GM's cause maybe you wanted Roenick.

I think Kreps BTW has a decent shot at being a decent NHLer.

Hell I certainly could have used a Roenick for this season with the way my team is going.

Anyone willing to give up a bag of pucks for Luongo ?   Man he is stinking up the joint in Steel Town.  J/K  on the trade but he is killing me.

This is Luke, I don't see that much wrong with it. JR is at the end of his career but those prospects really arent all that good are they?

I think it would be better if we just opened a new thread/board called "Opinions on Trades". Then you can give your take freely maybe. Otherwise it just seems a little uncalled for.

Aaron and I are comming from a place where there is a thread like that so we feel like we can post our two cents. But it seems like that maybe isnt as necissary on these boards.

To even remotely consider this as a veto-worthy trade, the BOD would not only have to be trigger happy, they'd have to be bullet-happy, laser-sight happy, and anything-else happy.  If this was even going to be considered, which I'm pretty sure it's not, we may as well just let the BOD Trade Committee make all trades for all teams.

I like this idea, on that note the Florida Panthers have traded Nikoli Zherdev to Boston for Donald Brashear, as per me.

Isnt the AHL important in our league? Yes... it is. So if these are 5 career AHLers then they could potentially win him 2% of the money in the league or whatever. Having a strong AHL team is important too. Roenick is worth NOTHING in 1 year, so how does this make sense? I know that the players arent NHL worthy, but JR himself is hardly worthy of that right now! Not to mention age. Plus Voros is actually not bad.

Oh come on

SJ just got a 2nd line center for their team for 5 AHL calibre players (personal opinions varying). They are obviously trying to get into the playoffs this season so it makes sense for them. Hell my Bruins were about to aacquire 2 of those players for a guy they can't use next season who isn't as good as Roenick. What if Roenick is the difference in 3 games down the stretch here for San Jose? and the team makes the playoffs? It'd be a fantastic trade for San Jose and would earn them cash as well.

The FUNNIEST part of this conversation was Aaron (I presume) making the arguement that the minors are important. While I think they are, others obvioulsly don't share my opinion, Aaron, how many AHL players does the Rochester team have? While I understand your reasoning for not creating your prospects, how can that be the basis of your arguement? That's absolutely insane.
