Just wondering what these will be based on. Is there a standard kind of contract or are they strictly to be negotiated. I know they're all 3 year deals but will the base salary be based on what the player has done in the NHL up to that point? So say a player like Zajac would cost more now because of his good play in the NHL to sign whereas a player like Stastny would have signed for less early on because he hadn't done much in the NHL? Then I'm assuming no rookie deal would be above Crosby's 850,000?

If you sign a guy before he starts breaking out, obviously he'd be cheaper, although with a range of 450k-850k there isn't a ton of negotiation room. But creating a Zajac right now is useless as his ratings this season are still based on the 05-06 season.
As you'll see in my post on the main board about the minors, if you have guys who played pro in North America last year its best to sign them now. And you'll get more discounted players who break out because they are under contract
