prospects quit, or give up their dreams or end their careers before they begin
he's a university student. you can't retire if you've never had a job yet in the profession!
"uh, I went to med school but in my final year of study before I graduated I decided to retire from medicine"...... just doesn't work.
Anyways, Shawn and Jamie lost their 33rd rounder. Not a big loss, but still...
I remember thinking he went higher than I would've drafted him, had Hagemo pegged for a 45ish rounder myself, but then again, I have little faith in NCAA players because so many talented college players just don't make the jump, for whatever reason. I drafted NO NCAA players but did pick up four Russian youngsters, which amounts to just about the same thing.
but quit just doesnt seem to be a fair word after presumebly all the hard work that he's put in.
Good point as well.
"give up his dream", "give up his plan to be" "give up his career aspirations"
aw, there's no one great way of saying it...
but I've never heard "retire" used in the context and it seems a bit odd, funny, but also funny ha-ha.
I retired from the film industry. I studied to be a film director but changed professions before I made anything. I was Pamela Anderson's dream date but I retired from that years ago.
