Trades?>

Certainly some must have been made during the pre-season, yet I have no idea what they were. Where can we find out what deals were made?

Well, I can't speak for any deals but my own, but the Panthers made one deal during the preseason sending Peter Cajanek and Brad Richardson to the Devils in exchange for Mike York and $750k.

Yes, this is getting a little ridiculous.

This is how I think the trades should work.

Both sides email the commish what they think the trade should be in a standard format of

Team A receives Jennifer Aniston

Team B receieves Brad Pitt

This would mean both teams confirm the deal if they send the exact same deal.

After that, the commish approves or disapproves with the BOD and posts it in a thread dedicated to all of our trades. The same thread will be used everytime and will be stickied to the top of the page.

End.

How is it working right now? We need to build history in our league by keeping records.

I can certainly see the commish's not wanting to have to do any further work, and don't see any issue with that, so I don't think that they should have to post any trades themselves.  The trades get e-mailed in right now and confirmed by both parties, that will and should have to continue as both should absolutely have to confirm a deal for it to become an issue.  I don't really like the idea of a single thread as it just gets too long and convoluted especially if people respond with their thoughts on the trade.

Simply have a new forum (the same as "Main Board", "Hockey Discussion" and the rest), where people can start their own threads when they make a deal.  It would be zero extra work for the commishs, and it wouldn't be one long thread so people can make comments if they want back and forth about who may have won a trade, who got the better player, who got the better deal long vs. short term... whatever.  Each trade has it's own thread, and it's extremely easy to follow.

I haven't understood the reluctance for this (or any alternative like the single thread, or whatever else), as it doesn't have to be any part of the "officialness" of the trade, it doesn't have to be any more work for the commishs, and it doesn't have to be difficult.  There still has to be the official e-mails by both GMs confirming the trade for a trade be considered officially complete by the league, this is just a way for everyone else to know about the deals, and comment if they want.

I agree about the email part.

I do not agree about not making it necassary for it to be posted.

Here are the reasons why I dont agree with it:

1.) Teams need to know what their rivals are doing in order to compete.
2.) Teams need to see what the going market is for players to learn.
3.) If we dont make it mandatory that it is posted (in some orderly fashion, either single thread or multiple threads, whatever...) then some deals that go through will never be learned about.

I dont really care how we order the trades, I am in a league where having 1 thread for JUST OFFICIAL TRADES and 1 thread for JUST OPINIONS ON TRADES also works. All you do is be strict when someone posts something in the trades thread and not in the opinion thread. That way there is 1 thread of ALLLLLLLLL the trade history, we wont have to go back and order it in the future, its much easier and much more chronilogical this way.

Having 1 thread PER TRADE means that some trades will have opinions posted of them and put them higher on the list of actual trades that have completed based on which thread was more active. Making it much harder to find the actual chronilogical order of all the trades in our league for future enjoyment.

It is important to have this chronilogical order to trades for history records, which if arent compiled properly from day 1, can be a HUUUUUGE MESS.

This is not more work on the commishs part. They can either post the trades, since they want this email stuff to be the approval on trades, or they can send an email back to both GMs after reading the trade request stating that they approve. WHICH THEN one of the GMs involved in the deal MUST POST THE TRADE IN THE APPROPRIATE MANNER.

Its really not that hard, lets choose a system and everyone will get used to it.

RE: Trades?

I actually agree with Buffalo and Columbus on this one.

Part of running a league and a good one is having all the little details available for all to see. Knowing the gang of commishes we have here this is not a problem at all with the experience they have and therefore it should not be a bother for them at all. In a league like this we should have every little stat that is available to us easy to view such as team stats and farm stats. All aspects of the league is as important as the next including what great deal Florida may or may not have made. Lets make it so.

In case people haven't noticed... a trade forum was opened up where they have listed the trades, and will continue to do so...
