Jets game file 1/82

As the first ever game as the Winnipeg Jets in the BRHL2 , the city and surrounding areas were thrilled about the return of the J-E-T-S. With the team looking to defend their back to back BRHL2 cups. The team has shaken up the core and brought in many new faces. With the new look and new town there have been many questions the team has faced and with the season beginning and how effective they would be. Some new faces include, Patrice Bergeron, Zach Bogosian, Brian Little, Chris Stewart, Manny Maholtra, Chris Higgins. Mainstays remaining with the team include Alex Ovechkin, Rick Nash, Zdeno Chara, Ryan Miller, Ales Hemsky and many others..

With the team starting the season against the lowly Blue Jackets and their starter Drew Macintyre it was assumed the Jackets would just roll over and take the defeat.

As the beginning of the game started, it was cleared that the frenzied fans in Winnipeg would be in for a battle. Justin Abdelkader started his season off well with line mates John Madden and Brad Marchand creating a good scoring chances that he pounded home a rebound on at 8:39 of the first period.. Not liking how his team was playing leader Zdeno Chara grabbed Cal O'Reilly and pounded in his face at 11:32 of the first.  At the 15:47 mark of the first Abdelkader took a run at Bergeron from behind and star Alexander Ovechking came to his defense and scrapped Abdlkader to a draw..

With the emotion of the fights in the 1st period the teams were battling hard to start the 2nd.  At 4:19, Zach Bogosian challenged Bryan Allen to keep the scrapping going and after getting the response he wanted he pounded on Allen until the ref's broke it up.. Getting dominated on the shot chart 37-19 nearing the end of the 2nd period John Tavares took an outlet pass from Chris Stewart and dangled around two blue Jacket defenders before sniping a beauty top shelf over Macintye's glove at 15:52 off the 2nd. With the game tied and riding momentum Chris Higgins received a tap in at the 16:51 for his first goal in the Jets organization. The play however was off an amazing pass from Ales Hemsky after blowing around three Jacket players in the neutral zone. With a minute and a half left Cody Mcormick took on and Chris Stewart and landed a solid punch at the end which gave him the decision accounding the the sim. Gathering steam at the end of two the Jackets had a 39-23 shot lead and trailed by one.

Knowing they had controlled play the Jackets came out hard in the third period and Dustin Jeffrey notched a shorthanded tally and tied the game at 2-2 off a pass from John Madden at the 5:00 mark of the 3rd. Still on the PK the Jackets received another interference penalty leaving them on a 5-3 PK.  Ovechkin sniped a corner off the Begeron face-off win and the team remained on a 1:58 second power play. 14 seconds after taking the lead Ovechkin hammered a slapper by Macintyre and a 4-2 lead with his second power play goal in 14 seconds. From their Ryan Miller shut the door on a 4-2 Jets win..

The final shot chart saw the Jackets fire 45 shots at Miller but only score twice. Ovechkin and Miller continued what they had showed last year winning a cup that they alone can carry a squad.
