With the signing of Dan Alfredsson (and even before then), it was looking as though Sam Gagner would not have a spot on the team. With that in mind, the team pulled the trigger today on a deal with the Carolina Hurricanes.
Heading to Carolina with Sam I Am is Brian Boucher. Coming back to the Bruins is minor leaguers Tim Sestito & Brent Krahn, as well as the Hurricanes 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th draft picks.
"I hated trading Sam, but we didn't have room for him, at and more than 2 million, we needed to move him out. We tried to get a top goaltender for him, but to no avail. As such we decided to move him for a pick heavy deal, one that we think could pay dividends down the road."
Rumor is that the team is still actively looking for a good young NHL goaltender, now, with additional picks, they may use them to get to that goal.
and lol sam in the nhl is in same spot as he was ur brhl2 team didnt know if he where he'd play to start his season seeing as Lander is earning a fulltime NHL spot.
Yeah agreed.. i dont see Sam with the Oilers past this season... RNH, Horcoff, Belanger, Lander are the Edmonton Centers for the next 3 years minimum....
I do think that they will send Lander down to the AHL once Gagner is healthy (under his 10 games of service time) so they can start his pro deal when he is more useful and going to get more ice time than the 9:30 he is getting now.... plus a season with all the PP and PK time he can handle playing with Hartikainen in OKC would be great for his development.. IMO
