Having dealt a hefty price for first overall, the Bruins walked to the podiumed to start the draft and could not wipe the grin off their face the entire time.
The Bruins begun restocking their cupboards and saw the first 3 rounds break down exactly how they had wanted. At first overall, they took Taylor Hall and have immediately pencilled him in to play with Ryan Getzlaf and Patrick Marleau.
The team tried desperately to trade back into the first round the farther Evgeni Kuznetsov fell, as they had him 6th on their board, but to no avail.
Then at 54 the team selected Radko Gudas a dman they are high on and who played well in the AHL last year.
Later on at 83 the team was thrilled to see Stephane da Costa still available and scooped him up. Da Costa is the rare high end collegiate that GM Shuck has felt would make an immediate impact, typically he dips into the collegiate level a bit later in the draft.
Then trading their 4th next year and Johan Harju to Dallas for 89th overall, Shuck went way off the board and took Joonas Rask, a player they love in the SM Liga. "We probably could have taken him later, but with Kirk relying on his big brother for draft help, we knew he could be gone. The price worked, so we took the plunge"
All in all a good day, with picks 96-116-146-152-185-208-211 tomorrow the team hopes to unearth the latest gem. With the team dealing former 6th & 7th rounders recently in Justin Braun, Sergei Bobrovsky, Carl Gunnarson, and Tommy Wingels, the team needs to restock its cupboards.
