Newark, NJ- Fans of the New Jersey Devils, you better buy a program when you attend your first game this season.
The Devils this year will be a completely new team with all new players and a new general manager. In what amounted to a 3-way FRANCHISE trade, the team formerly known as the Vancouver Canucks is heading to Newark to become your new, New Jersey Devils. Our old Devils have moved to Ottawa to become the Senators, and the old Senators are going to Vancouver to take over the name, Canucks.
The deal also included the trading of farm teams, so the Manitoba Moose are now moving to Lowell, MA to be the Lowell Devils.
Also announced today is the hiring of a new general manager. Taking over the helm is Tim Scholl. Scholl comes down from the press box, where he was doing work for STATS, Inc. From his location high above the ice, Scholl was able to scout the entire league as he was doing his work.
Scholl said, This is dream of mine to be a GM of an NHL franchise. I realize we are joining the league late in the preseason and we have a lot of homework to do. But we will put in our time, and will be ready for opening day.
The first test for Scholl will be the handling of the upcoming NHL entry draft.
The new GM is a Philadelphia, PA native and a long time Flyers fan, so how does he feel about working for the rival Devils?
Flyers are just one of the 29 other teams that are holding us back from our ultimate goal. The Devils are the team I get paid to work for, so I am a Devils fan now, said Scholl.
