After hearing multiple offers that did not even interest the Canadiens GM, Tomayko, the Montreal Canadiens have continued their rebuilding efforts by dropping down for 2 first round picks. Some confusion occurred during trade talks with Ottawa, but the deal was as follows:
Montreal recieves:
14th and 20th overall
Ottawa recieves:
6th overall and 5PHX
GM Tomayko was available for comments immediately after the trade was announced:
"We wanted to move down from the 6 spot for over a month now. We had recieved offers from Atlantapeg and Filthadelphia that obviously did not appeal to our eyes, but when we saw GM Jordan Hansford place the 14th and 20th overall on the trade block, we had to act fast. We had to give up a later round pick to complete the deal, but now we have the 14th/16th/20th overall in the first round as well as 11 other picks in the upcoming draft. We have the picks to acquire the tools for the future. Next up is the draft and then Free Agency to get back into the playoffs in the coming 2 years."
