In a bold move made today just before the free agency season kicks off the Thrashers spent about 5 million of the cap space they had planned on using in UFA to bring in a vetern without having to move any of their assets. The team however must have felt strongly enough about E.Staal to move out K.Okposo, D.Perron both young top line NHL assets who are on cheap deals, along with THN top prospect and former team canada captain P.Cormier and the LA 3rd next year all to complete the Staal brothers (who are in NHL) on one team.
When asked about the deal G.M Shuck had this to say, "It was going to be a goal of ours this offseason to try and unite the Staal family in Atlanta we got the main piece done bringing in Eric who we consider a franchise caliber player and a guy that we had a tough time with in the cup final last year and are excited to bring onto our side as we try to defend that title."
When the media caught up to Jordan and Marc to tell them about the big brother coming to Atlanta next year Jordan had this to say,
"This is awesome news I just got off the phone with Eric and he is thrilled to be coming down to Atlanta to play next year. He is a tough guy to check in the years I've had to play against him im pumped he'll be my teammate next year."
Marc, "Eric joining our core of forwards for next year is going to be huge, he has size, speed, and a wicked shot. All three of us playing together will be fun, hopefully our G.M will be able to bring in Jared and we hope he can make it to the NHL with us."
