Rebuilder: Coyotes for: From Thrashers to Coyotes : Chris Neil, David Desharnais, Ron Hainsey. From Coyotes to Thrashers : Michal Rozsival, Vyacheslav Kozlov, $1,250,000 Reasoning: Rozsival and Kozlov were two good UFAs, but for Phoenix added some key pieces for a possible run at the cup next year. Hainsey is a solid PMD and Neil could be a key energy line winger. I think Steve got a solid return from Atlanta.
Kings for: From Kings to Thrashers : Teppo Numminen, Tyler Myers (P), Y:6-RND:4-LA . From Thrashers to Kings : Wayne Simmonds, Karl Alzner, Brandon McMillan (P), Mitch Wahl (P), Y:6-RND 1-Atl. Reasoning: Funny how I'm saying the Kings did a rebuilding trade, yet traded away Tyler Myers. However, Simmonds was very good for the Kings in their playoff series against the Canucks this year and flourished in a top 6 role. He may be there next year if the Kings don't acquire anyone else, Alzner and McMillan are two prospects I like quite a bit. I don't know too much about Wahl but he seems to have the potential to be a solid checking line forward and a 1st round pick makes me think that the Kings got an amazing return for Myers. San Jose for: From San Jose to Philly: Alexander Ovechkin, Chris Drury, Petr Prucha, Nathan Oystrick, Patrice Brisebois, Brian Willsie From Philly to San Jose: Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, Tomas Fleischmann Reasoning: I wasn't sure if this is a rebuilding or contending deal, but seeing how Ovechkin was the best player involved in the deal and it was a move for the future, I considered it a rebuilding deal. I think San Jose should be rewarded for their move for the Sedins who broke out and should rerate nicely (with Henrik winning the Art Ross and the Hart) and Daniel putting up the numbers despite missing a quarter of the year with an injury).
Pittsburgh for: From Pittsburgh to Buffalo: Pittsburgh 1st From Buffalo to Pittsburgh: Buffalo 1st, Colorado 2nd, Buffalo 2nd, San Jose 2nd, Jonas Gustavsson, Mike Murphy Reasoning: Moving the 4th overall pick had to have a good return, a potential starter (even if it is in Toronto), a 1st and 3 2nd round picks plus a prospect in my opinion is a solid return for the pick.
Anaheim for: From Anaheim to Boston: Minnesota 2nd From Boston to Anaheim: Antti Niemi, Carolina 5th Reasoning: Niemi looks like he could be the starter in Chicago for next season and should rerate as a solid backup to Lundqvist for Anaheim for next year. A 2nd round pick for that seems to be a low price to get that and so Anaheim deserves credit here as well.
Contender: Blues for: From Blues to Bluejackets: Chris Kunitz, Yannick Weber, Pittsburgh 5th From Bluejackets to Blues: Todd White, Evan Oberg, Atlanta 7th Reasoning: Even though it looks like just a swap of UFAs, prospects and late picks, Todd White has become a major part of why my team is where it is. In the chase for the President's Trophy, as a 2nd line centre, White put up 32 points in 29 games averaging a 1.35 points for every 20 minutes of TOI. That didn't stop in the playoffs as through the first three rounds he has 10 goals (leading all players), 17 points (3rd in playoffs and 1st of players remaining) and 5 game winning goals (3 more than anyone else, including the series winner against Anaheim).
Thrashers for: From Minnesota to Atlanta: David Backes, Dennis Seidenberg and $1.5 million From Atlanta to Minnesota: Chris Stewart Reasoning: They may take on the salary, but in exchange for Stewart, Atlanta gets a great return (un)fortunately.
I think this is exactly what a rebuilding trade is compared to what Gareth currently has listed (No offence). A rebuilding trade to me is one that will see an impact in at least 2 or 3 years down the line not a quick turn around for a playoff push next year, the only one that falls under that catergory for me is the Atlanta/LA trade as that will have more of an impact in the future due to the 1st, McMillan, Wahl and Alzner needing time to develop, although LA did give up a great young player which seems the opposite of a rebuild.
While my trade isnt a blockbuster by any means it gives me a good young winger with a great chance in the NHL to play 3rd line minutes and establish himself this year as an NHL player before hopefully making an impact in the BRHL a couple of seasons down the line for a veteran defenseman that TO will only have for 1 more season.

I was brought into the BRHL2 four days before the trade deadline on 2010-03-16. It's true I had some experience this year within the BRHL, BRHLJ, and BRHLE prior to taking control of the Lightning but I ask that you consider me for the rebuilder award based on how little time I had to make changes and what I was able to accomplish.
2010-03-19 12:50:23 TampaBay Lightning Shane OBrien Ottawa Senators Prospect: Michael Stone
2010-03-19 21:07 Ryan Vesce (waivers)
2010-03-19 22:40:47 TampaBay Lightning Brian Rafalski (UFA) Boston Bruins Year 5 - Draft Pick: StL - Round 5 Prospect: Juraj Mikus D Jordan Hendry
2010-03-20 07:48:06 TampaBay Lightning Nicklas Lidstrom (15.75 mil contract) Year 5 - Draft Pick: TB - Round 5 Calgary Flames Mats Sundin (retiring) Ken Klee (retiring) Matt Lashoff Year 5 - Draft Pick: NYR - Round 3
2010-03-20 10:10:56 TampaBay Lightning Nikolai Zherdev (moving to BRHLE) Year 5 - Draft Pick: StL - Round 5 Boston Bruins Francis Pare John Curry Year 5 - Draft Pick: StL - Round 6
2010-03-20 21:22:03 TampaBay Lightning Year 5 - Draft Pick: TB - Round 7 Calgary Flames Michael Peca (retiring)
2010-04-06 21:52 Brad Lukowich (waivers)
Not only did I secure young talent and an additional pick but these moves kept me a little over the cap floor for the remainder of the season while ensuring I had over 30 mil in cap space for the following season to begin transforming my team.
I just went through the list of all of the trades throughout the year. I honestly couldn't pick one trade that was great for a rebuilder. However, this trade is far and away the best one I saw for a contender.
Winner: ANA
To ANA: Henrik Lundqvist
To ATL: Justin Abdelkader Jeff Tambellini Prospect: Erik Johnson Year 5 - Draft Pick: Nsh - Round 3

I agree with ST-Louis...this was a HUGE MEGA Blockbuster trade...that truely benefitetd both teams. SJ and STL even met eachother in the conference finals...
Very gutsy move..i think it should be acknowledged.
San Jose for: From San Jose to Philly: Alexander Ovechkin, Chris Drury, Petr Prucha, Nathan Oystrick, Patrice Brisebois, Brian Willsie
From Philly to San Jose: Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, Tomas Fleischmann
Reasoning: I wasn't sure if this is a rebuilding or contending deal, but seeing how Ovechkin was the best player involved in the deal and it was a move for the future, I considered it a rebuilding deal. I think San Jose should be rewarded for their move for the Sedins who broke out and should rerate nicely (with Henrik winning the Art Ross and the Hart) and Daniel putting up the numbers despite missing a quarter of the year with an injury).
From Blackhawks to Ducks : - Marian Gaborik - Y:5-RND:2-Chi
From Ducks to Blackhawks : - Nikita Filatov - Niklas Hjalmarsson - Jamie Benn (P) - Y:5-RND:4-Ana
Yes, the Ducks gave up some very good players in this deal, but the acquisition of Gaborik with a key piece to the Ducks revival in the BRHL2. Subsequent to the Gaborik acquisition the Ducks signed Brad Richards to an offer sheet and traded for Henrik Lundqvist. The Gaborik deal led to both the Richards signing and Lundqvist trade.
Most will agree that the team that gets the "best player" in the trade usually wins the trade - I don't see this one being any difference. And while the Blackhawks' cap situation forced their hand a bit, I think this trade is a legitimate candidate for "contender trade of the year" as it was the impetus for turning the Ducks from rebuilder to contender.
