The Boston Bruins have made their long anticipated big move into the trade market by dealing young sniper Phil Kessel to the hated Atlanta Thrashers, along with Nik Kulemin, Michal Jordan and 2 million.
Coming back to Boston is franchise defenseman Shea Weber, as well as two 3rd round picks, and a 6th rounder.
"We are thrilled to add a franchise defenseman the quality of Shea Weber to our organization." GM Shuck said when announcing the deal, "We feel that Shea makes our defense a strength this season, as well as into the future, and while we hated to deal Phil, who we took in the draft years ago, we had a surplus of scoring up front, and felt that it was a necessary step to take."
No word yet on who Weber will pair with, but a likely Phaneuf-Weber pairing has fans salivating.
The Bruins are not yet done, the team continues to look for tweaks to propel them deep into the playoffs.

Best Pair in Team Canada WJHC History. Would love to see that on the ice again sometime in my life. Nice job Bryce. Like seeing Kessel on ATL and Weber on your team way more :)

Actually that was the pairing during the WHL vs. ****ty Russian Tour back before they hit the big time. I remember getting roasted royally on some messageboards on how I thought Weber compared favourably to Phaneuf.
Who is laughing now beeatches?
Nice deal Bryce.

Yeah that's where it originated, but it came into prominence in Grand Forks as we all know. Even when Phaneuf was coming off his dominant year, I wanted the Flames to deal Phaneuf for Weber straight up. Obviously Weber is twice the player at this point in time, but I believe Phaneuf will continue to move back and forth in his play from anywhere from a healthy scratch to dominant.
