A cap violation has resulted in the release of Kimmo Timonen from the Edmonton Oilers.
An unfortunate result, and the first cap casualty in two years, but the OIlers started the day over the cap, have logged into the page today, made a trade (which is unconfirmed), that still would have resulted in them being over cap. And have made no contact with the league offices to recify the teams situation.
A definete blow to the Oilers division title hopes. Timonen is heading back to Finland for the duration of the season to chillax, and will be a UFA again this summer.
Sorry Bryce if I am stepping on your toes here, but Timonen is basically a UFA at this point, no team owns his rights anymore so he can't be traded in anyway but he can't be signed till the summer.
