Tournament Started - Daily Update Thread

I'll post daily comments and updates in this tread.

Tournament has started, the index is fully functional.  The portal is functioning except for the rosters.  The rosters will be functional as of tomorrow.

Cheers

Steve, can you make sure the rest of the teams don't choke on my dust as I leave them in 2nd place?

Haha, figured you'd be happy with how things are going.  This validates my argument with Bryce that there should be 2 USA teams. :)

Northeastern US - team 1. Everything else - team 2?  Or a draft?

Sorry folks but dividing Canada into four teams was a terrible idea. I'm happy to be a GM in the tournament but why weaken Canada because it has depth? If anything, you could have let a GM select Team Canada and with the remaining players allowed another GM to create a second one, then a third, etc.

nah, completely disagree....

everyone klnows they dont have enough tough guys in quebec, and not enough skill in BC... we should have left those 2 sad sad cases out of the tourney as everyone knows they dont play REAL hockey anywhere but Alberta and Ontario

Canada does have a lot of disadvantages, by using birthplaces instead of nationalities, Canada loses out on Heatley, Regehr and a few other potential guys. Even more so by splitting it up, if you want the U.S.A. to be split in two and a draft taking place, then the same formula should be used for Canada.

The only support you have for dividing Canada into regions is from the Bloc Quebecois!

Good to hear there are opinions on this matter.  It's an evolving process as we try to get the most parity possible for international tournaments.

P.S. Today's games simmed :)

Canada & Alberta are 3-1, Ontario is 2-2, Quebec and BC 1-3-1

While the Americans are strong, alot has to do with Tim Thomas and his ratings after his ridiculously good 08-09 season. We'll see what happens in the medal round, but I personally like the split of the Canadian teams. It really wouldn't be stunning to see any of them win the tournament.
