Ottawa Senators Prospect Rankings

(I'm posting here just in case someone wanted to make a comment)

1. Cody Hodgson (C/RW) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=11253
-Is/was (depending on who you talk to) one of the leagues top prospects, but has been sidelined with a back injury he suffered while training in the off-season and until he hits the ice again in game action it will be impossible to gauge what his future holds, but Ottawa is still very high on Hodgson and expects a full recovery and for Hodgson to be back on the ice soon.
-Was the CHL Player of the Year 08/09, OHL First All-Star team 08/09, OHL Most Outstanding Player 08/09, OHL Most Sportsmanlike Player 08/09

2. Evgeny Grachev (LW) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=16752
-Grachev was extremely high on Ottawa's draft list as he played on the same Brampton team as top pick Cody Hodgson so the scouting staff got to see many of his games, he currently plays in the AHL as a 19yr old and has put up 19 pts in 37 games and has looked inconsistent at times but that certainly is not a surprise considering his age.
-At 6'4' 220 he has the size to be a top power forward in the BRHL for year to come, expect Grachev and Hodgson to reunite in Ottawa on their top line in the very near future.

3. Lars Eller (C/W) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=5995&lang=en
-Lars Eller made his NA debut this year and he certainly hasn't disappointed scoring at almost a point a game pace in the AHL as a 20yr old posting 26 points in 28 games and getting a cup of coffee in St.Louis scoring his first NHL goal in his first game.
-With St.Louis just making a coaching change bringing in Eller's AHL coach and with players like Tkachuk, Kariya, and McDonald nearing the end of their careers our as possible trade bait Eller could see full time NHL duty as soon as 2010/11 and by all accounts is certainly ready for that role.

4. Micheal Grabner (RW) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=8494&lang=en
- Is Currently skating in Manitoba after recovering from an ankle injury, he has registered 10pts in 9 games while with Manitoba while adding 5pts in 9 games while he was skating for the NHL Vancouver Canucks.
-Has great speed and is on the verge of a full time NHL spot, and could certainly earn another call up after showing great chemistry with Ryan Kesler and Mason Raymond. Expect Grabner to be a full time NHL'er later this year or he will at least have a position to lose in training camp next year.

5. Riley Nash (C) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=12507
- Riley Nash was just recently acquired from the Atlanta Thrashers, and currently skates for CornellUniversity and has 13pts in 14 games. Nash earned a spot on the ECAC first team and honorable mention for the all-Ivy League team as a sophomore last year.
- Plays a strong two-way game and should have a good chance at cracking a weak Oilers line up that will be heading towards a rebuild. He will need to continue to fill out his 6'1' frame, but has all the tools to become a strong two way top 6 forward in the NHL.

6. Vyachelov Voyonov (D) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=10627
-Joined the AHL Monarchs as a 19yr old last year, and after a slow start he turned it around after playing for Russia in the WJC, he finished the year with 23 points in 68 games, very respectable numbers for an 18 yr old playing for the first time in NA.
-Voyonov has continued his development in Manchester as a 19yr old and has quickly become the teams top defenseman, he has already scored 19points in 38 games and will certainly surpass last years totals while playing in all situations. He could get a serious look in training camp next year for the Kings.

7. Bill Sweatt (LW) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=9322
- Currently playing his final year of college hockey at ColoradoCollege registering 21 pts in 20 games and is the Tigers top point producer.
- Has blazing speed and decent size at 6'0' 190lbs, Sweatt is a strong energy player that has top 6 potential, but can certainly make the Senators as a 3rd liner at the very least.

8. Jimmy Howard (G) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=9058
-Currently the starting goaltender for the Detroit Red Wings, he has put together a 14-9-2 record with a 2.23 GAA, and .920 SV% with 1 SO. He has helped turn around the Red Wings season even though the Wings continue to have injury issues.
-The Wings are slowly starting to get healthy and seem to be favouring Howard over Osgood which are all good signs for the young tender, if he continues to get the nod and shows consistency Howard could very easily move up this list.

9. Ben Maxwell (C) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=9337
- Maxwell has scored 25pts in 37 games for the Hamilton Bulldogs of the AHL and has played well in their top 6, he got a brief call up to Montreal last year playing in 7 games although he didnt register a point.
- Maxwell has top-six forward potential down the road, his offensive skills are already well defined and he has decent NHL size at 6'1' 195 lbs, he has a strong hockey sense and can play both ends of the ice well.

10. Luke Adam (C) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=13785
- Adam has put up huge numbers for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles scoring 52 points in 33 games, and just recently skated for Canada at the WJC where he scored 8 pts in 6 games, he currently sits in 7th in QMJHL scoring.
- Has NHL size at 6'2' 203 lbs, and he knows how to use his size in front of the net especially on the PP, this will be his last year in juniors and should turn pro next year.

11. Colby Robak (D) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=17518
- Robak has been leading the way defensively for the Brandon Wheat Kings all season, scoring 35 points in 37 games, and playing in all situations.
- He has very good size at 6'4' 207 lbs, he is a smooth skater that can skate the puck out of trouble and can join the rush from behind, Colby has the skill set to be an offensive defenseman in the NHL.

12. Sergei Shirokov (LW/RW) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=9264
-Shirokov is currently playing for the Manitoba Moose after starting the year in the NHL with the Vancouver Canucks. After a bit of a slow start to his NA career, Shirokov has stepped it up and has scored 26pts in 36 games, while failing to register a point in 6 NHL games.
- Shirokov has impressed the team with his positive attitude and willingness to earn his spot in the NHL, after turing down more money in Russia. He is a slick goal scorer with good vision especially around the net. Shirokov would of been higher on the list but even with his positive attitude concern remains he could bolt for Russia.

13. James Wright (C) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=18595
- Surprisingly made the Tampa Bay Lightning as a 19 yr old, he has played mostly on the 3rd and 4th lines in Tampa but has seen limited time on the top 6. Expect Wright to join the Senators in the BRHL as early as next season.
- While only scoring 5pts in 41 games, Wright has seen almost 2minutes a night on the PK, and it certainly looks like he will become a fixture in Tampa for years to come as a solid 3rd liner that can chip in offensively.

14. Yann Sauve (D) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=11318
- Sauve is currently patrolling the blue line for the Saint John Sea Dogs and will certainly never be confused with a PP QB, but he is certainly excelling in his role as the Seas Dogs Penalty Killer and shut down defenseman.
- Sauve will certainly need a few more years of development before he is ready for the big club, but he is a smooth skater especially for his size (6'3' 212 lbs) and has good hockey smarts, expect Sauve to be a solid contributor defensively for the Senators in a couple of seasons.

15. Kyle Cumiskey (D) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=10405
- Cumiskey is currently playing with the Colorado Avalanche in the NHL as their 6th or 7th defenseman in what looks to be his first full NHL season. He currently has 8 pts in 28 games and has played in all situations averaging just over 1 minute on the PK and almost 2minutes on the PP per game when he plays.
- Cumiskey could certainly crack the Avs top 4 next year and while he is small at 5'10' he has the offensively ability to be a regular on the blue liner and help QB the Avs PP.

16. Jeff Frazee (G) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=9222
- Only a few short years ago many GM's were ready to write off Frazee after a horrible end to his collegiate career, but after his first year of pro hockey in Lowell Frazee is back on the map.
- Suffered a scary preseason injury that saw him take a skate to the neck, he started off slow after returning from injury, but has found his game again registering a 9-7 record with a 2.65 GAA and .910 SV%. He currently splits time in net but as he is the only real goalie in the Devils system expect his to get more starts down the stretch.

17. A.J. Jenks (C) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=14643
- Jenks has been skating with the Plymouth Whalers this year scoring 35points in 28 games, and just finished winning a gold medal with Americans in the WJC where he registered 5 points in 7 games.
- Jenks has the size (6'2' 205lbs) to be a good 3rd line power forward in the NHL that can chip in offensively, he is strong in the face off circle and good defensively, but will continue to have to show a strong work ethic to separate himself from similar forwards in the Sens system.

18. Marc-Andre Bourdon (D) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=19078
- Bourdon was a First team All Star during his final two years off junior hockey in the QMJHL. He is currently skating with Adirondack Phantoms in the AHL but with the lack on any real skilled forwards on the Phantoms Bourdon has only produced 7 points in 30 games.
- Bourdon is a skilled puck moving defenseman and showed that in his last year of junior hockey where he scored at over a point per game pace. He will need time to develop though and consider the NHL depth he is behind he will get all the time he needs.

19. Mark Fistric (D) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=8399
- Fistric is currently skating with the NHL Dallas Stars scoring only 5 points in 34 games but his role certainly isn't to put the puck in the net.
- Fistric has seen limited ice time this year and has been brought along slowly by the Stars, he will fill the shoes of a player like Karlis Skrastins for them in the future as one of the leaders on the PK.

20. Adam Henrique (C) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=19043
- Henrique is currently playing for the Windsor Spit Fires scoring 53 points in 32 games, but much of that can be attributed to playing with Taylor Hall for much of the season. He can play in all situations and just finished representing Canada at the WJC where he was the tournaments best face off man winning 79 % of his draws losing only 7 the whole tournament.
- While Henrique most likely won't make the NHL as a top 6 forward, he certainly has the skill set especially in the face off circle top be a top defensive forward and is probably one of the NHL Devils most well rounded forward prospects.

HONOURABLE MENTION:

Ryan White (C) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=11050
- Has played 13 games with the Montreal Canadians this year registering 2 assists, while playing 1:22 on the PK per game. White has progressed quicker then anyone expected and could see full time NHL duty as soon as the 2010-11 season as a defensive 3rd or 4th line forward.

Dale Mitchell (RW) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=12113
- Mitchell started the year with the Toronto Marlies scoring 3 points in 9 games before being returned to the Windsor Spitfires a team he won the Memorial Cup with last year. He has been one of the Spitfires top forwards since returning registering 21 points in 15 games.

Stefan Legein (RW) http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=12460
- Everyone knows the story of Stefan Legein, and many might have written him off, but he is back on the hockey map at least in the eyes of Senators management. While struggling to regain his form after his return to hockey he was recently traded to the Flyers in the NHL and while playing with the Phantoms in the AHL he has found his game registering 17 points in 27 games including 14 goals on a weak offensive team. Legein could easily skyrocket up the prospect rankings if this play continues.
