The Chicago Blackhawks have been rumoured to acquire some veteran help to avoid the rush at the trade deadline. Heading to the Windy City are Darryl Sydor, Gary Roberts and Rich Peverley while the Hawks move top prospect Jamie Benn and veteran blueliner Martin Skoula. Picks are also involved.
"I don't know much," started GM Bachul "I am here on the beach in Lima, Peru. Nice place, pretty green. Excuse me....Miss, can you get me another Pisco sour, a little easy on the lime....ok, where were we...yeah. I got a call from Dave. He said vets are good...I said sure, go get some, he said Sydor, Roberts, and Peverley...I said whatever you think, pal."
The Hawks have continued their assault as a powerhouse in the BRHL2 with 16-6-1 record. The concern from the media is that a trade could disrupt the chemistry of the team, and putting their hot play at risk.
"In all seriousness, the addition of Roberts, Peverley and Sydor mean we don't have to play kids at key positions. They are true professionals and we expect they will be key contributors down the stretch."
In final analysis, the team did give up their key prospect in Jamie Benn who was expected to be a top 6 winger as early as next season.
"That is a fact. But these guys can contribute now, and that being the case, you always have to make that move. A rolling stone...you know....and adding Peverley who is a PPG quality player will help us cap wise this year and next. Puts us in a good position to add a couple dollars in salary if needed."
I now have a BRHL monopoly of Jamie Benn. Have him in 3 of the leagues.
Gary Roberts will be missed. But, he deserves to play on a great team, and will do so the remainder of this year.
Getting a serviceable defenseman back in Skoula helps my defensive depth. As well as player in Benn who will fill the void of Peverley for a long time. I think that it's a good deal for both teams.
I guess all I'll have to do now is trade Kirk five 5th rounders for two more players who he really doesn't know much about.
