BRHL Waiver Draft Process & Final Details

Erica is simming the final game(s) of the preseason here tonight I believe. Upon it's completion. We will be updating the files and having a roster freeze while we run the waiver draft.

The Process
- All players will be called up to the pro team. Teams are required to send lines in by Friday @ 10am EST. That will show everyone who is exposed on the waiver draft.
- Teams may protect a MAXIMUM of 20 skaters and 3 goalies.
- Players 23 and under do not have to be protected. BUT have to have played at least 5 AHL games last season to go to the minors.
- ALL players 24 and older would have to clear waivers before being demoted at any time.
- Waiver draft will be done on the messageboard in reverse order of last years standings
- Waiver Draft will run from Saturday October 10th until Monday October 19th at 8pm EST. If waiver draft is not completed. We will hold a draft Monday October 19th at 9pm  to finish the remainder.

The Rules
- 3 rounds long
- Teams may not lose more than 3 players
- If you claim a player that puts you over the 20-3 limits, you have to unprotect another.
- Teams will have 12 hours to post their claim. If you are coming up and may not be around, email the commish addy with a top list of guys, or a pass or whatever. Failure to respond in the appropriate time will result in a pass. If you have no intention of claiming anyone, let us know as well.

The Help
- Once I have everyone's rosters finalized, I will send an Excel file out to all GMs showing the players who are exposed.
Tracking on the messageboard will show the amount of players teams have protected, and the GM's can police themselves as we roll through.
- If you have questions on exposable players. Typically I am on ICQ from 10:30am-6:30pm EST, Erica comes on shortly thereafter, so you can reach either of us.

ANSWERED IN COLOUR BELOW ARE SOME OF TEH QUESTIONS THAT HAVE BEEN POPPING UP

1. All players are being called up to the pro's, you need to send lines in with an appropriate 23 man roster. Any players 24 and older being demoted to minors will be exposed to waivers. When you try and send them down in the files to be posted tonight, it will tell you they are going to minors.

2. For players 23 and under who did not play at least 5 games in AHL last season, they too would have to clear waivers to be demoted. So if I wanted to send Gagner to minors, he would have to be exposed. While the sim obviously doesn't detect this, I will do a scan of the final rosters and make note of them, plus you guys are great at policing yourselves.

3. No you can not use a goaltender slot for another player.

4. Rosters to be updated tonight. Excel sheet to be out once deadline to get protected lists are in.

5. If a team does not send their lines in to determine who is exposed. I will do it for them, and that team will waive the opportunity to claim anyone in waiver draft.

1. Guys 23 and under staying in pros don't have to clear waivers, so they can be kept on the pro squad in your lines obviously.

2. Had answered previously, but no their is no altering of the 20/3 ratio

3. Rookies are not exempt from waivers going forward, that was one of teh things we were changing with the move to STHS to better track these things, I erroneously included it in the new rules.

Keep it real simple guys

Do your lines with the files updated now.

Make your 23 man pro roster. Anyone sent to minors who is over 24 will be exposed to waivers, and the sim will tell you so.

For instance my 23 man roster has 5 guys 23 or younger. So I have protected 3 goalies and 15 skaters.

If I want to claim a player in waiver draft I would have to expose/demote another player. Since my 5 under 23 players (Gagner, Kessel, Getzlaf, Burns, Phaneuf) cannot go to minors. I would have to demote probably Jordan Hendry for example. Or if a team has a 23 or under guy in the pros who could go to AHL (say I had Kulemin) I could pick up a waiver claim, and demote him, without exposing a player.

If you have specific questions, feel free to post and ill answer em, or catch me on ICQ

If we claim a player, can we leave them unprotected throughout the waiver draft instead of unprotecting one of our 20/3???

I am confused what you want as far as lines ... are we supposed to use our lines somehow to show who we want protected?

I believe that when you are done with your lines you should have a maximum of 20 skaters and 3 goalies on your pro team. Everyone on the farm that is not waiver exempt will be part of the waiver draft.

So a player that is 22 or 23 but did not play in the AHL last season must be protected.

or clear waivers to get to the minors is that correct?

Also if we do not protect 3 G can we use one of those spots for an extra player? biggrin

...  it doesn't say "unless they have not played at least 5 AHL games..."

I understand that but if I want them to play in the minors and they have to clear waivers to get down there if they have not played 5 games in the AHL last season.

So, can you protect a player in the minors? If you have 18 players to protect on the pros, but two open protection spots can you use them on players in the minors?

I guess thinking about it, my question is answered that if they are 24 or older they would be exposed to go to the minors anyways....(Please confirm)

Everyone on your farm team will be called up to the pro in my understanding of this...

when should we expect the form to be sent out? my lines as they are right now are complete, but i'm assuming my pro roster will suddenly have my farm roster added, do i need to send in new lines?

OK, so I am right...even if you have spots available, if you try to send a guy to the farm, he immediately becomes available in the waiver draft (Does the same apply for goalies since we are allowed to protect three) eligible.

I am not going to try to hide anything, so I will post it here.

Peter Harrold is 25 and likely going to go down to the farm. If we choose to keep him on the pro team, and run with 21 players in the pros and stay cap compliant, we could do that. If we send him down at any time, he would be eligible for waivers.

That and if a player is 25 and still a rookie, then they are exempt? Also, we can protect the maximum only if we are cap compliant, correct?

Rookies over 24? (In the rules it says All rookies are exempt.)
Does your 23 man roster have to be cap compliant?

And I'm still waiting for Erik Johnson to be placed back on my prospect list (alternatively you could just add a year to his contract...)
