Season 4 UFA guidelines

I'm posting this here before I e-mail or post it as an article on the site in the event that something needs to be altered.

===========================================================

Free Agency will start Monday July 6th @ 12:30 pm EST.

Unrestricted free agency will work simply on a highest bidder format.

- To place a legal bid on a player, you must increase the bid of the previous offer of no less than $250,000.
- A team that currently has a player already on their roster, despite them entering Free Agency, will get a home discount in that a player will give the home team a 10% discount in negotiations. So a 1 year 1 million offer from another team is equal to a 1 year 900k offer from their prior team.
- Once a bid is placed on a player another team has 48 hours to bid more for that players service. If no one bids higher, that player will sign with the leading bidder.
- Signing bonuses may not exceed half the TOTAL contract amount. So a 4 year 2 million dollar offer may not have a signing bonus of more than 4 million.
- The total value of a bid on a UFA is calculated by; (yearly salary  + (total signing bonus/years)). So in the prior example of a 4 year 2 million dollar deal with a 4 million dollar signing bonus that is worth 3 million per season.
- The player will sign with whichever team offers them the highest average salary per season.
- Teams must have the money in their current finances in able to offer signing bonuses, and may not go into the negative from paying the signing bonuses.
- Teams may NOT release players during unrestricted free agency. The only transactions allowed during free agency are actual trades between teams.
- Teams may exceed the cap during the off-season by no more than 3 million. The buffer limit is set at 59,700,000
- GMs who place a bid that puts their team over the $3,000,000 buffer will have their offer voided and the team will no longer be allowed to bid on the player.
- Teams can have no more than 5 leading bids on a UFA.
- Failure to comply to rules and regulations will void your teams bidding for the player on which the error has been made.

Trading recently signed UFA's cannot be done prior to the following time periods without penalty:

Player (contract)30 Days60 Days90 Days120 DaysTrade Deadline
4 million +$5,000,000$4,000,000$3,000,000$2,000,000$1,000,000
3-3.99 million$4,000,000$3,000,000$2,000,000$750,000
1.5-2.99 million$3,000,000$2,000,000$500,000
800k-1.499 million$2,000,000$250,000
Less than 799kNone

HOW to submit and offer:

- Log into the BRHL2 site
- Under the TRANSACTIONS tab, click UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS.
- This will bring you to a page full of the the current UFAs. You are able to sort though this list by the rating categories, by clicking on the categories.
- To offer a contract a player, click the OFFER CONTRACT link.
- This will bring you to the player's Free Agent Offer Sheet.
- Enter in your contract offer. Years and Yearly salary. The yearly salary offered will be multiplied by the years offered and will labeled as the total offer.
- To check the status of your or other free agent offers, click on the date under the deadline category on the UFA page.

To be considered a legal contract offer, the next offer to the player must be $250,000 or higher than the previous leading offer. The offer must be within 48 hours of the previous leading offer. Keep in mind that the time stamping of the offers will be followed strictly.

Signing Bonuses will be included and structured with the winning GM after the signing is complete. Once a leading offer has stood for 48 hours, Bryce or I will accept the correct offer through the site. After that, the winning GM will receive an e-mail notifying them of the good news. The GM is then responsible to respond to that e-mail to the League e-mail (brhl2@brhlhockey.com) with the details of the contract. Including the amount of the signing bonus they wish to figure into their offer.

Example:
E-mail confirming Free Agent signing:
Jim Paek has decided to accept the contract offered by the NewYork Islanders. NewYork offered him a 3 year deal worth 3,238,334 per season. It may take up to 24 hours to see the changes on the website.

Response from GM explaining contract details:
3 years, $2,455,000.  SB - $2,350,000

If the SB is correct and legal, the league will then input the signing into the sim.

WHAT to include in your yearly amount offered.
- Base salary
- SB per year
- Hometown discount.

Formula to find out the yearly amount on an offer worth 3 year, $2,455,000. SB $2,350,000:
((Base salary +(Signing Bonus / year(s) offered)) = Yearly total
((2,455,000 + (2,350,000 / 3)) = 3,238,334 (Round up to the nearest dollar)

Formula to find out the yearly amount with hometown discount:
((Base salary x .1)+(Base salary)+(Signing Bonus / year(s) offered))= Yearly total
((2,455,000 x .1) + (2,455,000) + (2,455,000 / 3))
245,500 + 2,455,000 + 783,334 = 3,483,834 (Round up to the nearest dollar)

Bryce will handle a Restricted Free Agency post with full details shortly.

Erik ---
Just to make sure I am understanding this, if I want to sign player x to a 2 year deal worth $4,000,000 per season + a $4,000,000 sb I would make the offer as 2 years @ $6,000,000 per season, correct?

And is it starting on July 6?

Also, are undrafted players going to be available as UFAs? I believe the rules say no, but I wanted to double check since they are listed on the UFA page.

Some of the UFAs will be cleaned up in the meantime. But barring any explanation by Bryce or myself, every player on the UFA page will be available.

Expect some explanations on some exceptions to that rule.

P.S. shut up Ian. :)

Exceptions would include

- All Guys that are RFA (list to be populated Thursday)
- Players 24 and younger

Everyone else should/will be fair game

FYI, these 3 players are wrongly duplicated on the UFA page because of the punctuation in their names. I have placed bids on them, so that no one else will. They will be removed once the real player signs.

* Jon D\'Aversa
* Rod Brind\'Amour
* Sean O\'Donnell

Click on the deadline date to see the other offers on the player, and if you are still the highest.

IF there is confusion, a signing bonus cannot be more than 50% of the salary. So a 1 year 2 million salary can have a MAX bonus of 1 million for a total yearly of 3 million

"Signing bonuses may not exceed have the TOTAL contract amount"

I believe you mean "half" not "have"

Looks like Kirk isn't the only one who can't spell...

Seriously though, I almost had a major disaster as I had assumed the word "have" just wasn't supposed to be there... thanks Kirk for pointing that out to me.
