Chicago, IL. -- All-Star center Vincent Lecavalier signed an 5-year, $45-million contract extension with the Blackhawks late yesterday.
"Not only is Vincent one of the most dynamic players in the NHL, he's one of the classiest people you'll ever meet off the ice, as well," Chicago CO-GM George Bachul said Tuesday in a team statement.
"With this deal, our ownership has made it clear that he is one of the cornerstones of the Hawks, and Vincent has shown his dedication to the franchise and the Chicago area by signing for a considerable term."
Owner GMs Dave Yee and George Bachul will join Lecavalier at a news conference Tuesday that will be followed by an autograph signing for season ticket holders and a town hall meeting featuring the owners, Lecavalier and coach Bryan Murray.
The 28-year-old forward, who helped Chicago win its first BRHL2 Cup championship last season, was entering restrictred free agency with a host of other players.
"I'm proud and honored to be committing myself ... to the Hawks for several years," Lecavalier said. "It's no secret how I feel about the organization, the fans and the Chicago community, and there's no place else I'd rather be."
"Combine that with the enthusiasm and commitment to winning that has been shown by GMs Bachul and Yee, and signing this long-term deal was an easy decision."
Lecavalier scored 79 points in 69 games this season ranking him fourth in team scoring.
The Hawks also signed Martin Skoula, Antoine Vermette and Adam Mair to multi year deals.
