After receiving word that GM Gareth Evans was nominated for GM of the Year, the St Louis Blues organization have began a drive in order to persuade fellow GMs to vote for Evans. Reports have Rory Fitzpatrick donating unsold 'Vote for Rory' t-shirts that will be recycled in the cause.
Out of the GMs named, Luke Wile is the obvious favourite after leading the Sabres to an impressive 137 point season. However, if you're looking for a team that has exceeded expectations, than the Blues 99 point season is excellent for a team that missed out on the playoffs last year. A team that finished 17th in the league last year, finished 8th this year and swept Minnesota in its first playoff series under the management of Gareth Evans.
In related news, the Boston Bruins (who is brothers with Atlanta GM Kirk Shuck) have launched an underground movement with a 'Don't Vote for Kirk' campaign. Apparently spin-offs include 'Shirk with Kirk' and Don't get Stuck with Shuck' (Just joking Kirk :P).
After the majority of other nominees have decided to take the high road and praise their fellow nominees instead of recruiting votes for themselves, the St Louis Blues GM Gareth Evans was reported to have said "I must look like an a**hole" before a press conference.
"I wish to comment upon the 'Vote for Me' campaign that is currently going on within this organization. Although I am delighted to be a nominee from amongst 29 other GMs who are highly respected throughout the FHL sim hockey leagues; I do not mean to belittle the achievements of the other nominees. Other than NYI GM and I, the other nominees all secured divisional titles (while two had finished 1st in the conferences), although I do believe that we have improved the most from the previous year, competing with the two Chicago GMs is no easy task. All nominees would be worthy winners and I would be among the first to congratulate the winner."
Actually, I was thinking about you making the same mistake that the NHL made with its Rory Fitzpatrick's all-star example. You put him on the ballot, doesn't mean anyone won't vote for him :)
I voted for Gareth because he was the only one who came out and begged for votes.
