The St Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks have announced that they have agreed upon a deal to be completed in the offseason. The Blues will part with goaltender Jonathan Quick in exchange for Anaheim's Dave Bolland, Justin Pogge and Yannick Weber.
Although Quick has impressed in the NHL, Nabokov will be remaining as starting goalie for another year and GM Evans felt that Quick would be wasted as a backup. Though somewhat disappointed to be trading Quick to a Western conference team, they are more than satisfied getting the players back.
Dave Bolland will be a solid third line forward in 2009/10 for the Blues, his two-way play will be depended upon alongside Manny Malhotra on the third line.
Although losing out on a more than capable backup, the Blues acquired Justin Pogge who they feel will be able to redeem himself after a disappointing year in Toronto. Though not expected to be the starter next season in Toronto, the Blues are excited to have this blue-chip prospect in their prospect pool.
Yannick Weber is a puckmoving defenseman and with Montreal desperate for more puckmoving dmen, Weber has an excellent chance of making the team for the 2009/10 season. He's demonstrated what he can do in 6 games with the pro squad with 3 points in those games.
thats alot for the Kings backup in NHL when Bernier is their starter..
Considering that Bernier is in the AHL still, I'll take my chances. Both Schneider and Niemi put up same or better AHL numbers than Bernier, so chances are, one of them will be in the NHL at some point soon.
Even if Bernier makes the NHL, the job is Quick's to lose now...

For me, the emergence of Quick in the NHL will allow the Kings to let Bernier matured more in the AHL for a couple more seasons... Unless Quick suddenly starts suffering (which I don't think will happen), then there is no pressure on the Kings to rush Bernier to the NHL...
