What do you think were the best trades of the year? Both for a rebuilding team and a contending team? It may be a bit early to decide on the contending team one, but the rebuilding one we can probably assess at this point. Nominate one of your trades, or someone else's. Let's hear them
And I'll nominate Gareth for this trade as a contender, which really solidified his status as a major player
To St.Louis: Bruno Gervais, Hal Gill, Ladislav Smid, Manny Malhotra, Pavel Datsyuk To Boston: Andrej Meszaros, Derek Roy, Miroslav Satan, Tim Gleason, Luca ****i, Ott 2009 Rnd 5, $500,000
To San Jose: Chris Drury, Daymond Langkow, Jay Pandolfo, Ilja Bryzgalov
To St Louis: Eric Staal, Andrej Meszaros, David Legwand, Brian Boucher, Stu Barnes.
Staal has been a key part of how I made the playoffs, while Meszaros, Legwand, Boucher and Barnes all went in deals to acquire other key parts of my playoff team...
For Rebuilding Deal of the Year
To Anaheim: couture, blum, nilsson, gerber for To Philly: R. Whitney, upshall, denis, phi 4 2009, ana 6 2009
Three solid young players for basically Whitney and Upshall is an impressive haul for Anaheim...
Another Rebuilding trade
To Boston:Chris Mason, Trevor Linden,750k, SJ 6th
To Ottawa Ray Emery, David Backes, Rob Scuderi, Stefan legein
Backes had an amazing year for the Blues in the NHL while Legein and Scuderi are solid, if Emery returns to the NHL and show the cup run form he had, could be a great deal for Ottawa in a couple years

For rebuilder I would suggest my Erat for Perron trade. Perron already has comparable attributes to Erat and is 7 years younger!
Ottawa sends: Martin Erat and Todd White
Phoenix sends: David Perron and STL 3 09

I regret this deal for sure, and it should be considered for a rebuilder one for Ottawa.
I also second George's opinion of my Carey Price trade. Price sucks and I got alot for him. Too bad I traded those assets away again... ah well, as it stands on its own, that Price trade is a beauty I think.
To Chicago: Kimmo Timonen To Tampa: Torrey Mitchell, Rob Schremp, Hal Gill
I would support your bid for a contending trade, but seeing how he did absolutely nothing on your team (traded to Toronto soon after) I don't see it as an important trade for a contender....
first off i dont know if the price one qualify's for this award does it? those picks were involved in last years draft does that qualify for this award?
2nd-
rebuilder of year trade nominee
TO Atlanta- Teemu Selanne 79 UFA 1 mill salary- Tb 1st (ended up 3rd overall pick) To Mtl- Shane Doan 82 UFA 3.2 mill salary , and mtl got 750k
One that was a low key trade and was an excellent deal for both the rebuilder and contender. Allow myself to get a top line forward and secure a playoff spot at the time and now Wash has a young solid forward for the future.

If it was after the award was awarded last year, then it should qualify.

If you look at the impact of the player had on the team, you are 100% correct. If you look at the deal itself, it was a good deal for a contender.
