The Edmonton Oilers are making a late season push for the playoffs as they currently sit tied for the 8th spot in the Western Conference whils riding a 2 game winning streak. The Oilers late season surge has the city buzzing and the management crossing their fingers. The Oilers have a lot of pending UFA's and GM Love knows he will have to rebuild the team for next season and a lot of the building will need to come through free agency and the extra money can go a long way in achieving that.
"We have some talent developing. We have at least three players who we feel can make the jump to the BRHL2 next season but we will still have holes and we will look to all options. But right now we are soley focusing on making the playoffs. Our team can upset some people if we get in and it would go a long way with our loyal fans." -- GM James Love.
The Oilers have been led this season by Johan Franzen, Martin Havlat and Olli Jokinen who are all going to finish the season as 30+ scorers. Franzen who has been on fire down the stretch with 17 points in his last 6 games (!) was the target of many GM's throughout the season but the Oilers were unwilling to part with the hulking goal scoring machine.
