Instead of tying up the phone lines for a week GM Thomson decided to go on holidays on the week of the trade deadline. Is this guy insane? With all of the movement and players available this GM was not able to take a copuple of hours out of his precious time and make some deals to improve the club.
GM Thomson reaction was "honestly some of the worst deals are made at the trade deadline, we didn't see any value of adding any pieces to this club right now, we like the team... We may not have the star power like the rest of the contenders out there but we play a good team game out there and will give any of these guys a run for their money. You have to remember this is an expansion team, there aren't too many assets on this team to begin with so we wanted to keep the picks, keep our younger core around, and not tempt fate by looking at the short term with this squad. We have a strong team, a stronger one then probably most GM thought at the start fo the season. No reason to blow things up at the deadline."
When asked if GM Thomson had any regrets. "Sure, we would have loved to add a depth defenseman, but again we were only working with 900K of cap room and there was not a lot available at the time, we did do some sniffing but at the end of the day, we are really happy with the product we have."
Well all I know is that if there is a first round exit in the playoffs some fans will come calling that the GM Thomson had the gall to take a holiday at this important time of the year. Just ask Tony Romo how that worked out for him... :)
