Thrashers Deadline

Atlanta's Deadline Breakdown

To Ottawa: Pit 2009 Rnd 4, Ana 2009 Rnd 6
To Atlanta: Jim Vandermeer, $560,000
G.m Reasoning- Early in the day we didnt know if our rental pickup for the remainder of year was going to be Mr.Vandermeer, giving up late picks for him made sense..

To Atlanta: Jeff Petry
To Calgary: Aaron Palushaj
G.m Reasoning- Oiler Honk brings in Oilers 2nd best prospect.

To Atlanta: Brian Campbell
To TampaBay: Matt Smaby, Maxim Lapierre, Jeff Petry, Luca Caputi
G.m Reasoning- Needed the true PP Qb for our team which B.Cambell is.. With his contract ending in yr 4 he is great option for back to back tag's at only 3.5 he is a very reasonable price for a FOUR year deal... Moving the peices we did was tough but we feel Lapierre and Smaby have a limited potential. Giving up Caputi-Petry was tough though but with lots of good prospects and picks in the system the team did what it felt it needed..

To Calgary: Jim Vandermeer, Mike Weber
To Atlanta: Nicklas Grossman, NYR 2009 Rnd 6, Cal 2009 Rnd 7
G.m Reasoning- After bringing in Cambell, Vandermeer had to leave, getting a nice improvement on M.Weber up to N.Grossman (M.Norstrom JR) we like the move for our team longterm..the late rounders helped in next deal.

To TampaBay: Cal 2009 Rnd 7
To Atlanta: Chris Gratton
G.m Reasoning- Chris is exactly what we were looking for at the deadline a VET with good size and toughness, with the ability to play all three forward position's..

To TampaBay: Valtteri Filppula
To Atlanta: Brandon Dubinsky, Mon 2009 Rnd 6, StL 2009 Rnd 6
G.m Reasoning- Getting C.Gratton and B.Cambell the team's cap guru C.Arthur  (and has yes been fired for falling asleep during deadline night LOL BRYCE) guru Arthur had the teams cap # wrong so the team felt it had to move V.Fillpulla's 2+mill salary off the 4th line for a cheaper option, Dubinsky is a great young player in NHL and someone who plays in all situation PP-PK-2nd line center.. Also Dubinsky plays with a edge/ physical presense that is nice.. In the teams eyes longterm he's a poor mans version of M.Richards....

To Atlanta: Logan Couture
To Anaheim: Cal 2009 Rnd 1
G.m Reasoning- With Pits, La, Det, Cal 1st round picks the team feels confident it will still have a solid class this year. Landing a prospect the team had as a top 12 pick last yr in the draft is a bonus for us for where we think the Cal 1st will be. Couture has had a bounce back season in the OHL and will likely be in SJ within a few seasons. They did trade up twice at the draft that season to pick Couture..

SO FOR DEADLINE DAY TOTAL ASSETS MOVING IN ATLANTA =====

Coming to Atlanta- 560k, B.Cambell, C.Gratton, N.Grossman, B.Dubinsky, L.Couture,  Nyr 6th, Mon 6th, stl 6th.
Leaving Atlanta- Pit 4th- Ana 6th, Cal 1st, V.Fillpulla, M.Weber, A.Palushaj, M.Smaby, M.Lapierre, L.Caputi

The team broke it down like this,,,,
6th-6th-6th = pit 4th-ana 6th
Grossman, Dubinsky, Gratton- 560k = Weber, Smaby, Fillp
Couture = Palushaj-Caputi
B.Cambell  >>> Lapierre-Cal 1st

It took 7 deals but the team feels like in the end it did get a impact guy in B.Cambell and didnt overpay in value to get things done for the day..

The teams lines for the remainder of this year are..

Kovalchuk-Savard-Hemsky-Souray-Cambell
Cole-Gomez-Heatley-Ranger-Schnieder
Pandalfo-Kesler-Mueller-Zanon-Edler
Gratton-Dubinsky-Schubert-Souray-Cambell

Turco
Price

G.M Response- We feel like our team is deep at every position and poised to make another cup appearance and this time come away with LORD STANLEY..

In closing just want to say thanx to all the G.M's for a good year of trading, the activity in this league rocks..

also after this was written the team came out and lost 4-0 to NYR...Gotta love it.
